I owned a 94 2500-360 4wd and worked the crap out of that thing and it took all the abuse. Then little things started breaking- handle when rolling up window-air conditioner-etc. and the straw that broke the camels back. The passenger side door opened on its own (and it was locked) while my daughters were in the truck. My 10yr old liked to freak out and almost fell out if it were'nt for the seat belt.
That happen to me in a 54 GMC tow truck when I was 7. No seat belts in that and going around a corner the door flew open and I got sucked out. THe only time in my life when I EVER seen my old man run full out.
I'm pretty comfortable saying that the other truck was far from stock. I know a bit about 5.7 hemi performance as I spent some money building our old hemi durango. In general without nitrous or forced induction there is not all too much to be gained on those 5.7 hemis. Even if he had a 6.1 cam and intake he wouldn't have taken you like that. You need to remember the supposed 345 hp hemi only put 250-260 to the wheels and the new 390 hp hemi just traded low end (that they couldn't afford to lose) for more top end.
You did actually race them in their sweet spot (speed) though, but you are a RCSB so it still shouldn't have happened.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLL... don't mean to be an *** since the story obviously happened several decades ago but that is one of the funniest stories i ever heard!! - Thank god you were alright

Yeah, I am all right. Kids bounce. I consider myself durable. I've lived through several things that could have killed me. Like getting pinned under my car with the frame on my chest and the tire inches from flattening my manhood
After market cummins parts are unlimited almost. I've seen ones pushing over 800hp before propane.

Funny you posted this thread. I have only gone up against one truck and its the same kind you described, new ram hemi crew cab, I jumped about 6 truck links and then he hanged but never closed the gap. It was a friend of mine and trust me, he gave it all it had.
Yeah, OP raced a truck with a "cheater" kit, got sprayed on and lost. It happens...
And the joke is on them...they may have been laughing at you, but his truck was far from stock at that point - just to put a truck length on a stock Tundra. Let 'em laugh all they want.

I had a guy in a Camaro with a TPI 305 run me a few years ago down at the Woodburn drag strip - he was really ragging on me because I was running my Mustang. He said his car was all stock except for exhaust and a chipped ECM, so I figured it might be a fair race. Half way down the track I heard a big "POP", then saw him come to a crawl - his intake blew apart from a nitrous backfire. The joke was definitely on him! Funny thing is my car was still pulling on him before his gave out.
The guy with the dodge will probably grenade his engine if he's running enough of a shot to walk away from you like that in a big heavy bus, that is if he's dumb enough to run that big of a shot with a wet kit to begin with. When he does blow up his engine, the dealer will be able to tell he was running nitrous and deny his "lifetime" powertrain warranty.

Reason: grammar
Im wondering just how much does the AC slow you down?

If he won by a car length, I bet the AC off would have evened it up. I heard AC robs about 10-15hp. Some cars disengage AC if you floor it- I dunno if the Tundra does or not.

The AC compressor will cut out at WOT, but the ECM actually runs slightly different engine parameters (ignition timing, fuel trim, etc.) to prevent detonation when the AC is turned on from the cabin, so you will still notice some difference. I verified this one day with an OBD2 scanner and observed the ECM pulling 2-4 degrees at WOT.
