Has anyone changed the spring on the accelerator pedal? I noticed that mine seems loose mainly when offroading. My wife's 06 Sequioa feels a little tighter and wonder if that would work.
The pedal is a little touchy if you're trying to drive slow on rough terrain. You'de probably have to custom fabricate a spring with more tension.
BTW, who is that drummer in your avatar?

I just found out the accelerator pedal is a complete assembly and appears to be a non-serviceable piece. You'd have to somehow get it apart without breaking it and then hopefully come up with a different replacement spring - probably not worth it.

It can be taken apart without a problem. My pedal had a "sticky" feel so I have had it all apart and back together. I can give you detailed instructions if you would like.

Yeah, go ahead and give us detailed instructions, I'd like to get rid of the sticky feeling as well...makes controlling the downshift difficult at times while towing.
Please and thanks.

I have found I can remove the sticky feeling by pressing the accelerator harder.
Yes, but that's quite painful while the "string" is installed.

Oh, you're referring to the "MPG string" - got it

Ok I will call the front view of the pedal the way it faces out under dash. unplug connector on top and take the 2 nuts off to remove the entire assembly. Once removed, you will see several metal plates/covers. Remove the left and right plates on each side with a flat head screwdriver. This will expose the metal pin that the pedal pivots on. I used a large hex/allen wrench and a hammer to drive this pin out. Just be sure to keep up with the bushings around the pin as you drive it out. Once the pin is removed you can also remove the large plate/cover on the bottom as well. now looking underneath the foot pedal you can see part of the spring. There are two springs (a large and a smaller that is inside of the larger spring). The round housing for spring can be removed by taking a flathead srewdriver and lifting up on the housing. It has a clip like lock that will release when you pry up on the spring housing. The whole spring/pedal and all then can be pulled out--just be sure to hold the springs when pulling them out so thay don't go flying off. You can then adjust the spring according to your needs. I am assuming you can "spread" the spring out to give more tension. For those with the "sticky feeling" you can grease the white plastic part that slides along the "track like" part in the connector assembly. You can see how these two pieces touch each other when the pedal is pressed and released. In my case there seemed to be alot of friction where the white piece slides back and forward, and I greased that section and it worked well for me (its been 2 weeks). You can really grease it without taking it completely apart. I did not figure that out until I had it all apart. Just reinsert pedal and spring and it will lock into place and then insert pin and bushing and use a hammer to gently drive pin back into place and snap covers back on.
Hope this helps,
Ken
