Default Follow-up to Noisy motor post

I had a Toyota mechanic listen to my motor yesterday....It is noisy after warm up at idle...Not the first start up noise....Mechanic said it sounded like weak lifters to him...I'm taking it back this afternoon for them to do more checking....Sounds like a diesel..

If I go to a drive up teller they ask me to turn my motor off...

I know i will get another "just drive the truck" reply but I will not put up with this noise much longer...I have been told, piston slap, injector noise, VVT sensor,etc...I hope they find the problem soon because other than this noise it has been a perfect truck...

Weak lifters? Lame..... did he check the exhaust tube on the back the engine....on the drivers side. There have been a few members with this issue (exactly as you described it) that their dealers have found this tube cracked. Once it is replaced with a new one, problem fixed.....

My neighbor had that problem on his Tundra - sounded like a cracked manifold. The problem is that many things can sound like "weak lifters" (exhaust leaks, low oil pressure, broken valve springs, bad injectors, etc.) Sounds like it's time to break out the stethoscope to pinpoint the noise. I'd say the general observation with these 5.7s is that the noise always goes away once they're warmed up.
