Not a Tundra, but there is currently a TSB out for the 2009+ Corolla due to a cold start knock.

What's going on that you need it replaced?

worst possible thing has happened to my tundra, the dealer has it until 10/08/09. and i am to drive a tacoma until then. i must have bad karma. my engine is the 4.6 liter. the engine light has come on twice. as of today still has 413 miles and it has been almost a week, very sad.

    Oh... UNTIL 10/08

The knock/rattle/clatter never goes away? Even when warm? Does it only do it at higher RPM's, or vice versa? Did they measure valve tolerances?
Only ask as my 5.7 makes all kinds of racket when cold.... It's kind of embarrassing in a sense...

If you're not paying for it... there's no smoke to blow...
It's not coming out of your pocket...

confusing part of whole thing is truck ran fine.engine came at about 250 miles, took it in the dealer put in on the computer and gave it back.the light was off. about 100 miles later it came back on.took it back they called me and said it was variable valve timing gear they would order the parts and now here we are.

I'm having mine done as we speak. Dealer has had it since last Thursday. All the listed symptoms...CE light comes on with less than 400 miles on it. At first they thought it was the gas cap...I hope this is not a major deal

update truck at dealer for two weeks now.have a loaner.factory reimbursing me for one month payment. when the new gear arrived and the techs got into the engine found that tensioner on timing belt was malfunctioning and they think that might be causing the ce light.part on back order.does this sound right to anyone.like i said before not to mechanically savvy. hope dealer knows what they are doing if not might request different truck. good luck to all with similar problem

The 4.6 has a timing belt? I thought they use a timing chain just like the 5.7. Or is it the serpentine belt you are referring to?

Two weeks!!! That is rediculous!!! Mine has now been in for a week. Problem started with under 400 miles on the truck. The whole point of buying a Toyota is NOT TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THINGS LIKE THIS. How long are we required to put up with this before we can request a different vehicle?
