Just woke up this morning, having a cup of coffee watching the news and it looks like there is a massive Toyota recall that includes 07-10 Tundra. The drivers floor mat can jam into the gas pedal (ouch) and trap it at WOT
They suggest we remove the mat until the the repair can be made!!

I have the weather tech mats and I decided to check the clearance between the pedal and the mat when the pedal was fully depressed, yes I did this with the motor turned off, and I discovered that the pedal was ever so slightly catching on the weather tech. Could it have gotten stuck? I took the mat out and trimmed it up a little bit and now no worries. I wonder if this recall is kind of like a "horse and pony" show, if you know what I mean. A floor mat the culprit? Anything is possible but it is not uncommon for big companies to look elsewhere to shift the appropriate level of responsibility but maybe in this case that was the case. I know when I saw how mine was I was very surprised. I'm glad I checked.
Tankerhank i should have linked to that before dinner... you beat me to it... lol
"The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said this is the eighth safety recall, involving a total of 16 million Ford Motor (vehicles, concerning a cruise control deactivation switch manufactured by Texas Instruments .
The faulty switch can leak hydraulic fluid, overheat, smoke and then burn, and risks causing a fire even when the ignition is turned off, parked and unattended, the NHTSA said."
my mom had a 93 grand marquis, the light control went and burnt up, and i replaced the brake switch on the pedal 3 times, 1st it would not go on, 2nd and 3rd it would not go off

The reason for the recall is some lexus dealership leased a car with the carpet and rubber floor mats the the gas pedal got stuck at WOT and people in the car wrecked at around 120 and died

It's for liability reasons, nothing can be assumed to be common sense anymore otherwise it'll happen again and they'll get sued for not putting it out there.
Friend of my gf's mom went through a storefront and is eivdently blaming it on the mats. I wonder how many other people out there will start messing up behind the wheel and using this as an excuse.

About a year or so ago, Weathertech sent out free replacement mats for the drivers side of the Tundra because of this problem. Don't know whether Weathertech will still provide the free replacement, but you should contact them.....

Can someone please explain how a mat can jam on the gas pedal when its anchored to the floor board. I just dont see how its done. I wear flip flops all the time and it jams between the gas and break pedals time to time. But an anchored mats getting jammed???? How...

If this person would have hit the brakes maybe it will not go 120MPH. I dont care if you're driving around in a Z06, hitting the brakes hard will not make your car do 120MPH.
I believe part of the problem lies in the fact that the mats come to the dealer in a baggy, the clips are in a baggy in the glove box and no one bothers to hook everything up proper, they tear the plastic off the mats and toss them in the car, leaving the clips in the glove box.
A very gray area thing as to who really is responsible. The manufacture provided them to prevent just what happened, the dealer may or may not of installed them and the vehicle owner may or may not of kept them on the clip after cleaning the vehicle or whatever.
