I'm sure you have all read the fantastic improvements in MPG after you install a tonneau cover on your truck (according to the retailers). I've owned my tundra for 6 months without a tonneau cover, was getting 15mpg around town (5.7 reg cab 4x4) which isn't too bad. I recently installed a tonneau cover and now I see an improvement of 2-10ths mpg increase. I like the improvement, though it don't meet the claimed increase in mpg that the retailer claimed it would that sold it to me. I purchased it for the funtionality more than mpg increase so ohh well. Any real world mpg increase testimonies would be appreciated.
I have a cover as well and couldn't tell you how much it helps. My fuel milage is always different within a mpg but no close enough to be able to tell the difference. Im harder on some tanks than others soo...wish I could help more.

If you can't take it with ya, why bother with an RV!

It was a big improvement on trucks of the past. But the trucks of the last few years have been designed with fuel economy in mind. No longer do we have flat roofs and square corners.
The mileage should increase a little and .2mpg is nothing to complain about. It helps pay for it and you get the use of it. I have a little 4 x 6 utility trailer with 2' sides. with the thing empty, it bounces all over the place behind the tundra, no issues with my sedan. Fill it up, remove tailgate or put a tarp on it and it smooths out indicating that the airflow of our trucks pass the tailgate making putting it down useless.
I don't think it changed either way, no better no worse but again I think most people purchase them for the function of a cover.
If it has changed any its such a small difference that would be extremely difficult to calculate, certainly no where near what some companies claim, we are maybe talking in the .10th's of a mile per gallon.

yes as stated above, the manuf has already designed airflow to maximize it as it is...modern trucks dont benefit from those stupid tailgate nets (thank god) or driving with it down or even a cover...if it does its only slightly and usually a figment of someones imagination...anytime someone is trying to look for increased mileage they subconciously drive more econimically...so instead of spending money on the mods in the first place jsut tell yourself you did something or other to it to improve mileage and poof it will happen because you are looking for that increase so your habits are modified...
maybe if you add more wax on the tonneau cover. yeah, that should do it!
maybe if you put on narrower tires. yeah, that should do it!
maybe if you run with just a few gallons in the fuel tank. yeah, that should do it!
maybe if you remove your spare tire and ship it to me. yeah, that should do it!
better yet, try all of the above!

I had an undercover installed yesterday. 2 hr trip to the dealer to get the cover and nfabs (sprayed w/line-x) bolted on, mostly interstate on a fresh tank to start. So at 70mph on the trip up produced 18mpg. By the time I reached my office on the return trip I was at 19.2. Basically same speed both ways. So I'm sure it wasnt the undercover, must have been the NFABS.
nfabs are great that way. just by reading the mileage thing is not anywhere accurate. Now if you filled up and drove, then installation and fillup, drove back and fillup, you would have an accurate reading.
I don't have a tonneau but i do have a cap and it hasn't changed my mileage

I bought a Peragon bed cover because it locks and is easily removable for hauling large items like fridges. It does what it does well but haven't had a noticeable improvement in MPG.

And you can't forget the best one of all... disconnect your battery and reconnect and you'll get better mpg!
