I'm not sure if the problem I'm experiencing is common, so I'm throwing it out for forum members to weigh in on.
Shortly after buying a pre-owned 2008 Crewmax, I noticed that satellite signal acquisition was sporadic. After trial and error I figured out a fix-it by changing channels immediatley after starting the truck, which seems to facilitate acquiring the signal from the Sirius satellite. However, this is just a fix, and frankly, I'm irritated with having to do this every time. I've moved the antenna (originally mounted inside near the defroster) to outside the front window, but this did not remedy the problem.
Has anyone had a similar issue. The head unit is the Limited equipped OE JBL stereo with navigation. The navigation also sucks, but clearly I'm biased to the industry leading Garmin products.
Additionally, shouldn't Toyota cover this? I haven't had time to take it in, but I do expect a battle with having this covered under warranty.
i added sirius to mine via the OEM parts and mounted my antenna on the roof through the 3rd brake light hole..no issues for me...it drops signal less than the factory sirius in my wife's 07 harmon kardon equipped mercedes benz....hers drops signal going down the freeway from time to time...weird...

probally is...take it in...they have radio issues from time to time..usually they take it out and send it out for repair...unless its just so bad they have to replace..but start griping about it now in case it keeps doing it well after warranty period...

I also added Sirius and mounted my antenna on the roof through the 3rd brake light hole..no issues here... only time I lose signal now is when I go under a bridge etc

I mounted both my GPS and XM antennas beneath the center speaker grille. Works fine, I rarely drop the signal except for when I drive on a certain tree lined road. Oddly enough, I've also dropped signal on the open New Mexico highway on a clear day. What's up with that?
Anyway, back to the OP: Yeah take it back, it should be covered. The whole reason I installed an aftermarket DVD/Nav system is because my factroy system had problems. Had Toyota replace it, then promptly took it out and stored it.
