2010 Tundra Transmission Shift Patterns

TSB 0285-10 is out there for this issue. Does anyone know if I can have this tsb done for free on a 2010 w/ 54K miles. I bought the truck used and have been having issues with the way the truck down shifts, especially when towing my boat or when using cruise control.

I did buy as a certified pre-owned with a 100K miles powertrain warranty and I wasn't sure if this tsb was only done on in warranty trucks.

TSB is good to go in your case. Call the dealer.

You should be covered as long as your drive train warranty is in effect.

Took the truck to the dealer this morning and according to them the computer program update is not covered under the extended powertrain warranty?

Does anyone know if this for a fact is covered?

You should still be covered under the original 5yr/60k power train warranty.
Might be worth making a call to Toyota.

Update - was able to get the reprogram taken care of by a different dealer as a warranty item. The truck's shift pattern seems much more in line with what you'd expect as it now holds the gears longer when using cruise control.

It's always interesting that dealers have differing opinions about what is or isn't covered under warranty.

That seems to have a lot more to do with how honest the dealer is. I suspect the first dealer wanted make you pay for it then bill Toyota for warranty too.

I asked my Dealer ( service adviser ) last week if there was some adjustment that could be made
to keep me in 6th longer and was told no. Maybe something aftermarket. I take it he doesn't know what he's talking about ?
I have A 2011 4.6 and just drove it from NY to Fla. and back. The truck downshifted for every little hill. I use a scanguage and the mpg loss was very high. I ended up driving most of the trip in 5th. Even on flat land in Fla.
it would downshift at overpasses going 75. Seems a little ridiculous. I averaged 19 mpg. going and 18.8
coming back with 4 people and a truck full of stuff. in 5th.

hi i work for toyota theres a few ways to do it, your truck is under powertrain warranty which it 6yr/60k some times it will throw shift soleniod codes, first step in fixing it is flushing the tranny, i have an 06 double cab and it was downshifting very hard from 2nd to first i flushed the tranny and its good. if your truck has a world standard sealed tranny it can get pretty expensive i used over 12 quarts of fluid. flushing world standard trannys have fixed almost every shift concern ive had a tundras and tacomas.

and most extended warrantys will not cover things like reflashes cause they want to see an actual defective or broken part i have a 2006 seinna van 2gr engine completly torn down in my bay and fidelity warranty will not cover any of it cause theres no physical damage. the pistons were below spec and slapping around the cylinder wall making noise

Note to self: Never by an extended warranty through Fidelity.

Also, why doesn't the owner of the van go on a little trip down the highway in 3rd gear with the engine at 5k RPM until there is "physical" damage to the engine. It shouldn't take long for that to happen per your description. It sucks that a person would have to do something like that in order to a claim covered that should be covered to begin with. That is why I only purchase an extended warranty through the manufacturer only.

I'm Sr Claim Adjuster with Auto Services Company & Route 66. Depending on the policy we will cover reflash/reprograming.... as far as the worn valve body bores not sure what there problem is. Even the most basic powertain plan covers valve body failure!

This is my first tundra, I have a 10, mine is great, BEST truck I ever bought.

Where I can found the vin number on the frame on my 2010 tundra, because I can not find it.
Maybe if you can send me a photo of part of the frame where it is stamped in vin number.
