BTW, my wrench doesn't have all of the fancy stampings on it so should be worth a fortune when I put it on sale (like coins that are miscast).
I too have one of the original tool without the stamped / markings. Of all the tools I have purchased recently, this has been my most useful.

Civic, I want one of these tools!

Oh, wait, first I have to get my Tundra!

    Hello everyone!

I just recently updated the design of the wrench to give it a tad more strength and a more efficient use of material.

I'm also working on a wrench made out of heat treated 4130 Chromoly steel designed to be used in a shop environment. (picture background)

Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!

Wink Re: Tundra custom made Oil Filter tool

I have one of these Toyota 64mm x14 flute. In fact, had my first oil change with it and fumbling around with my rubber adjustable oil wrench for an hour. I gotta say though, I did not like the fact that the Toyota flute wrench was so dang hard to get on and off. Fit so tight that it made it a itch to take on and off. Therefore, suffice to say from experience, I order the aluminum housing and special tool. Since I have always done my own oil changes, I could not see continuing using the crap plastic housing or flute tool. Thanks again guys for easing my suffering. I'm 50 now and I definitely don not want to be under the truck any longer than I need to be. Thanks again for your ingenuity. Have a nice day! :O)

Yeah, I'd bet even tonyspin came around to the aluminum housing and CivicFerio's special tool.

I ordered the special tool - what is the aluminum filler cap?

I only have 2k mile on my '13 rw, but I like to the maintenance myself and want to have the right tools.

The aluminum housing is from a Venza. It replaces the plastic oil filter housing currently on Tundras.

The center shaft from the plastic housing has to be saved and put in the Venza aluminum housing. Then the shorter Venza shaft can be discarded. It is extremely simple to do.

You should have been able to find it on eBay.

I forgot to mention that you also have to save the bottom plug on the plastic filter and use it on the aluminum filter.

OK! I just finished reading this entire thread. I want one of the filter housing tools. I will email CivicFerio to order. Hope that is correct procedure.

I just purchased a 2013 Tundra w/4.6 L engine to replace my '98 F150(also w/4.6L engine). If I had known about the issues with the filter, I might have gotten another F150. I would hope that the justification behind the location of the filter is more than trying to funnel oil changes to the dealers.

I have an '06 Avalon and have changed the oil from the time the dealer oil changes ceased. I have never been able to remove the plug to drain the housing. I've tried everything short of destroying the housing. I suspect that the mechanic(s) jammed it in there to make it more difficult(messy) to change out the filter. When I go for the first oil change on the Tundra, I'm going to risk incurring their wrath and insist that they remove the plug and not overtighten it when reinstalling.

Do current new Tundra's have the plastic filter housing?

What "issues with the filter" are you referring to?

You can avoid all of the oil plug issues by getting a Fumoto valve. I have them in all of my vehicles.

To me, it is an issue that the skid plate must be removed to access the filter. My experience with the local dealer is that when they remove anything, they don't put all the fasteners(bolts) back in place. I have to go back and complain.

Also, I change my own oil, after the "free" changes are over. I don't really like to have to remove a lot of stuff to get to the filter.

As for the Fumoto valve, I have that on the Avalon and also had one on the F150 that the Tundra replaced. I will be putting one on the Tundra.
