Hello
Like most of you guys I try to do all the maintenance on my Tundra. The first time I did the oil change (I bought my Tundra used) I saw the filter housing pretty beat up, looks like someone used a channel lock trying totake it off, soon I realized why.
After going through 3 brands of oil filter wrenches, busted knuckles, a lot of swearing and half a day of driving around, I end up with a stamp metal wrench, put a rag over it and hammered it on to get that sucker off.I also took the opportunity to replace the filter housing to a Toyota Venza one per Jowett recommendations.
A few months later, I was cleaning up my garage and saw the plastic filter housing that I took off. Just before I chuck it in to the trash, I saw the little redundant wings that were built in on the housing. I said hey why not make a tool that instead of grabbing on the hex which will round out if the tool ever slips, it will grab on the wings which looks substantial. At the same time I had flash backs of that dreaded oil change day. Armed with the motivation of not wanting to bust another knuckle, I went on the drawing board.
After work the next day I visited my buddies shop and showed him the CAD I came up. A 12 pack and two weeks later he made the tool for me. And I finally got to try it on my Tundra this weekend and it worked perfectly. Here are some pictures of the tool, hope you guys like it.
