Default Tundra custom made Oil Filter tool

    Hello

Like most of you guys I try to do all the maintenance on my Tundra. The first time I did the oil change (I bought my Tundra used) I saw the filter housing pretty beat up, looks like someone used a channel lock trying totake it off, soon I realized why.

After going through 3 brands of oil filter wrenches, busted knuckles, a lot of swearing and half a day of driving around, I end up with a stamp metal wrench, put a rag over it and hammered it on to get that sucker off.I also took the opportunity to replace the filter housing to a Toyota Venza one per Jowett recommendations.

A few months later, I was cleaning up my garage and saw the plastic filter housing that I took off. Just before I chuck it in to the trash, I saw the little redundant wings that were built in on the housing. I said hey why not make a tool that instead of grabbing on the hex which will round out if the tool ever slips, it will grab on the wings which looks substantial. At the same time I had flash backs of that dreaded oil change day. Armed with the motivation of not wanting to bust another knuckle, I went on the drawing board.

After work the next day I visited my buddies shop and showed him the CAD I came up. A 12 pack and two weeks later he made the tool for me. And I finally got to try it on my Tundra this weekend and it worked perfectly. Here are some pictures of the tool, hope you guys like it.

    Update 2/9/2012

Due to very positive response from the members I will be making about 10-15 of these wrenches and they will be ready to ship on 2/13/2012

Pricing will be very simple the wrench will be $8

Shipping you have a few options.

    For US

$7 USPS Priority Flat Rate Small box with tracking and insurance

$3.5 USPS Snail Mail (In a padded mailer) no tracking and insurance

    For Canada

$15 USPS Priority Flat Rate Small box with tracking and insurance

$6 USPS Snail Mail (In a padded mailer) no tracking and insurance

Just add the price of the wrench plus shipping and send in your payments to paypal account chal15@hotmail.com. You can also email me at the same email address or PM me in TS.

    Thanks everyone, you guys rock!

    Update 2/14/2012

As scheduled, the tools were sent out on the 13th and everyone who prepaid using priority shipment should recieve their tracking number on your email.

I will try and keep at least 5 or 10 of these tools on hand from now on so everyone can get them immediately.

    Good job, but still overkill.

Sorry for the redundancy, (since I have mentioned it in other threads) after the $6 tool works fine for the 1st change, simply locktight the drain "plug" to the bottom of the housing and next time remove the entire cartridge via the plug.

Has worked flawlessly for +- 20 oil changes I've done.

Removing the full cartridge makes as much mess as any standard spin on filter and as much as getting the the silly plastic doo-hicky to seat.......it also saves time IMHO.

OK, got off the phone with my friend and he is willing to do it for $8. Then I'll package it and ship it USPS priority flat rate small box with tracking for another $7.

I'm anal about this stuff so I tweaked the design last night and narrowed the fingers a bit to gain more clearance as the wrench turns.

Thanks for the compliment guys! I went to the post office to check the prices on how to ship these wrenches.

    For US
First class mail is $3.50 on a padded mailer no tracking no insurance.
Priority mail is $7 with tracking and insurance

    For Canada
First class (snail mail) is $6 on a padded mailer no tracking no insurance
Priority mail is $15 with tracking and insurance
