    Default Alternator removal trouble!

So i decided to take on the task of replacing my alternator myself in order to avoid crazy dealership fees ($1400).

Once i finally got the damn skid plate off, i started on the alternator removal process. But everytime i go to loosen the bolts, i end up turning the whole pulley mechinism. I fell like im missing a step. Any advice???

You usually don't remove the pulley untill the altenator is out of the truck, then you hold the pulley and use an impact wrench to remove the nut.

I believe there is only 1 bolt holding the front of the alternator. that bolt also serves as the hinge. It's hard to see due to tight space. I had to use my iphone to video the front of the alternator to I can tell what bolt to loosen up.

Toyota has a special tool to hold the pulley while removing/installing the pulley nut.

Otherwise, here is some further reference.
