Could it not be possible for Toyota to introduce a slightly bigger truck than the currrent double cab tundra, equip it with a proper heavy duty drivetrain & chassis with modern Hi-tech 6 cyl. turbo Diesel and get reasonable fuel mileage? The above truck should be able to haul 2.5-3.0k or tow 12-15k ? (or not?) I have noticed that all the domestic truck manuf. are putting in these huge V8 diesel's that can twist frames and "do donuts in the parking lot". THis is fine for the macho thing, but is it really required for a work truck and people who don't really care if they are the fastest from corner to corner? Where is the fuel savings with these huge motors? Am I missing something?

Just checked out the spy pics in Motor Trend page 18 and 19. Looks like a Dodge Ram double cab covered with a body bra. Seems like a pretty small cargo bed for such a large truck though. I also agree that they are getting into the heavy duty truck market a little late Personally the current size Tundra has more than enough power, towing and cago capacity for my needs and would not be interested in a larger model unless it got a lot better mileage than my 05 Tundra 4x4. It should be a great truck though for someone who really needs the extra towing capacity. I was talking to a guy a little while ago that said he would have loved to buy a Toyota Tundra as he likes Toyotas but the Tundra did not have enough towing capacity for him and he bought a Denalli instead and is not happy with it because it rattles like a tin can A hybrid truck may interest me in the future BUT the only problem with them is the high price. They cost alot more than an equal non hybrid vehicle. I can just imagine what a hybrid Tundra would cost, buy the time you would recoup your gas savings over the initial cost it would be time to buy a new truck.
my thoughts exactly about the bed...looks way to small i swear it can't be over 4-1/2 box.....the f-150's are small enough w/ the 5-1/2 ft
I really doubt that the present Tundra chassis can safely control a 5 ton trailer. I'd want a long wheelbase 3/4-ton truck for that trailer and an engine bigger than 5.4L.
For those who pull large travel/horse trailers, the larger more powerful truck makes plenty of sense. I work with a guy that has had two Sequoia's and loves them. When asked why he didn't buy a Tundra instead of the Chevy, he said he would have if it were beafy enough to pull his horse trailer. So there is a market for the larger unit; I just hope they keep the current model available also.
I agree. Don't forget it takes about 3 years minimum to bring a new vehicle to market. One would need a crystal ball to have accurately predicted that hurricanes would have reeked such havoc on the gulf coast. Since I tow a travel trailer, I'm looking foward to the new Tundra's towing capabilities. I expect Toyota to add their synergy? drive to this vehicle as well. As someone said before, Toyota has more liquid assests than any other vehicle manufacturer. That said, they can afford to bring and refine these dual power train vehicles to market!
I heard that the much vaulted Ford Escape Hybrid was built with Toyota technology, i.e., the purchase of 20 + Toyota licenses. Anybody hear the same thing?
I think the current Tundra will be competing too closely with the new Tacoma, so it may go the way of the dinosaur!
I think Ford was just in the news a couple weeks ago complaining about the Japanese auto makers hoarding the materials for hybrid cars. Don't understand it too much as it seems all the automakers are intertwined in so many different ways already, but they were sure whining hard.

Im not sure why they would be complaining since Ford already has an license agreement with Toyota for the hybrid technology.Im not doubting what you heard,Im just wondering why they're whining about it.

That's pretty funny.
"Mean ole Toyota is hogging all the good stuff for themselves. It's not fair. I'm gonna tell."Sticks thumb in mouth.
Here is a link to the concept Tundra. Now you guys can talk about how unrealistic it is. Also, I heard the same thing about the Toyota truck/suv line. The dealer told me that the whole line will move up one size. Tacoma -> Tundra size, 4Runner -> Sequoia size, etc... My last tidbit is that he also told me that there is a Hybrid Sequoia already running in California. Anyone else heard these rumors? Enjoy the link to the pics.

Not sure about the escape hybrid, but I have heard numerous sources state that Nissan licenesed their hybrid system from Toyota for their new Altima Hybrid.

those V8 Duramax (Isuzu/GM/Chevy) Diesels are getting high teens, low 20's... I'll take it!
I was hoping for something in the high twenties when not towing and mid twenties while towing. Apparently in early 2007 all the North American refineries have to have there diesel fuel cleaned up. When this happens, expect a lot of offshore (i.e Mercedes, Hino etc) to introduce new hitech diesels into North America. Lets hope !

I always get a kick out of these concept interiors that the "artists" come up with. I guess it's good to think outside the box, but maybe a requirement should be that they have to sit inside their creations for a 3hr stint to think about what they've done.
I can't get a vinyl floor without paying extra, and this concept tundra interior looks like something from a Vegas virtual reality ride.
Also, give me a diesel that will run on soy diesel fuel...us Iowans will buy that in a heartbeat.
