This is a discussion thread titled "How to correctly detail your auto", within the Detailing forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I have always had a problem keeping the part of the door that is painted black (on the side of the glass by the center post) looking good. On a Camry that I had, I would wax it and it still did not look that great. What do you guys do?

I'm sure Brandon has some miracle potient that will make it look great.
I just use whatever I am cleaning the exterior windows with, Windex or whatever I find under the sink that my wife forgets to hide. It works well with hand prints and smudges.
Went to Home Depot today and I found something useful for detailing my truck
It's called a "Rejuvenate Microfiber Mitt Applicator" It's made for cleaning furniture. Nice thing is that it has a lining so your hands don't get all wet I use it for cleaning the interior with windex or water and waxing the exterior.
I am re-organizing my pictures, please PM me if you find dead pictures and I'll fix it. Also, I don't have many pics in my account here, best place to view my truck is on photobucket: Here is my photobucket account: LINK
All of the above posts are GREAT advice! Now let's talk about the INTERIOR
Any suggestions for shampooing the carpet?
I recently purchased some 303 upholstery cleaner, it worked great on spots in the carpet and seats, I really need a machine for carpets that are really bad off.
would this thing be ok for doing the type of work the Porter/Cable is recommended for? if it works ok, any specific kind of pads i should be looking at?
thanks for the great writeup. my 2001 has all sorts of tiny little blemishes/scratches that i'm looking forward to taking care of this spring.
Great write-up. Does it matter what brand clay I use. I could not find clay magic. Any ideas on where to find Eagle one Nano-Polish for metal and Mezerna Final Polish II. Do you have any suggestions for shampooing the carpet?

That would not be even close to the work that a PC could do. That is only for applying wax and glazes, it will not correct the tiny blemishes that you are wanting to take care of.

well, if you re-read the article, it says that anything that is from the internet is from AutoGeek.com Automotive Super Site and I think the mezerna can be found at properautocare.com. the other stuff can be found at autozone. Any clay will work.
as stated above, my method for cleaning carpet is woolite 10:1 with hot water.

ok, i've gotten everything i think i'll need locally or from autogeeek. just waiting for a warmer day with no rain in the forecast!
i may have missed it, but do you have any suggestions of what to use on a soft Truxedo tonneau cover? that tends to get very water-spotted after a wash. just some simple vinyl cleaner?
If it is just a simple vinyl cover, then yeah, clean with vinyl cleaner and seal with something like 303 or the like. Armor all works just as good as well.
