Default Fog light working w/o headlights on

I was wondering how did some of you get your fog lights to work without your headlights on. If you can send me a link or tell me how you do it. I have a 06 Tundra DC. Thanks in Advance. Take care

Do a search in this forum or the Audio and Electronics forum. Phil and I have both done posts on how to do it. Mine worked out real easy, but the method won't work with all trucks. In fact it will only work on the access cab without DRLs, maybe only 2006 even.

In my method, I had to cut one wire, and splice it to another. bingo fogs on when I want them on if the ignition is on. never had to pop the hood.

I think this thread has my info and the links to the other methods.

Nope!!

Been looking at the wiring diagrams. For some reason, only the 2006 Access Cab without DRLs has the simple ground for the foglight relay. The relay is directly grounded with a white/black wire to the front left fender. That is why it was so easy for me. The Red/yellow wire provides 12V to the fog light switch. This wire was only energized when the low beams were on. I made it energized when the ignition was on.

Okay, 2006 Double Cab without DRLs:
The logic of the whole circuit is entirely different.

1) The fog light relay is provided power only when the low beams are on, through a yellow/red wire. I think you will need to find this wire, it comes from the headlights, a yellow/red wire from each headlight goes through a junction connector then to the underhood fog light relay. You need to provide a different source of power to the relay, one that is only energized when the ignition is on. Some folks have done this by bending out a prong of the relay and running a switched 12V source through jumper to the now-exposed prong. A cleaner way to do it is to locate the yellow/red wire as it goes into the underhood relay/fuse box instead. Cut it and splice in your new power source to the wire going into the relay/fuse box.

2) The ground for the fog light relay is a red/white wire going to the fog light switch. When the fog light switch is ON, the ground is completed through the green/black wire coming out of the fog light switch. You need to provide cut this green/black wire and connect it to a constant ground. Phil's instructions tell you how to do this.

2006 Double cab WITH DRLs.
1) the 12V wire to the relay is green/white instead of the yellow/red as detailed above.
2006 Access cab WITH DRLs.
1) the 12V wire to the fog light switch is green/red. provide ignition switched power to this green/red wire.
2) you need to ground the green/white wire coming out of the fog light relay. Otherwise this green/white wire only grounds the relay when the low beams are on. This logic is redundant for some reason.

PM me if you don't understand my instructions and I will try to help.

Joe
