I've filled my new DC 5.7 up twice, so far. I've got about 540 miles on it. 13.6 and 14.1 MPG on mixed driving. I'm driving south to LA this weekend and should get a good indication of freeway mileage. I'll let you know. I generally drive between 70-75MPH. If I can get close to the mileage of my '05 DC I'll be a happy camper.
Picked up my 5.7 today and had 47 miles on it with a 10.3 MPG ave reading. When I got home it was 10.6 MPG w/ 107 miles. For sure it needs to be better, will let you know how it does in a month/after ~1K Miles..
Funny, I pulled the window sticker out of my glove box for my 2004 V8 (iForce 4.7)Tundra Access Cab (purchased in December of 2003) and the sticker says 14 and 18 for mileage. I've NEVER been down to 14. I'm usually running 16.5 - 17 in mixed driving, and 20 on the highway. I didn't remember the sticker saying it was so low. Then again, in December of 2003 I wasn't really that concerned with gas prices anyway.
5.7 is getting about 16mpg avg and 12 with 8,000 lbs behind it. The 4.7 has been known to average 17.5. What is funny is that people shun the 4.7 because of the EPA numbers on the sticker!!. Perception is not 100 percent reality!! BTW Why are V-8 381 HP truck buyers spending so much damn time on the internet complaining about fuel mileage for? I know that the last thing a guy in an F-350 is worried about is gas mileage. He is worried about tow capacity. For all the fuel misers there is the 1.5 liter YARIS
I got 7,000 on my 4.7 DC TRD. The last week I was getting 17.2. Looking to still improve, so if you know of any fancy aftermarket stuff let me know. Does a billet grill help with miles per gallon?
DC 4x4 5.7L TRD here... had it for 3 days, don't know how accurate the computer is, but I was getting just over 15mpg around town with open roads, it went to 14.6 after an hour of driving around neighborhoods looking at houses and stopping 100 times and idling at each.
Overall, I'm super happy with the mileage I think depending on how accurate the computer is.

i've got a '08 5.7 with 8k miles and im getting 13mpg on average (and seems to be dropping). im hearing a lot of talk with people getting around 16-17mpg. i dont do a lot of highway driving, and live in the northeast (getting colder and colder). is this my problem? or is everyone fluffing there true mileage?
I usually get around 16.5mpg overall, mostly during a 34-mile (each way) commute to work, 28 miles of that is highway, but it's normally in traffic. I'm usually pretty easy on the throttle. It's gone up around 1mpg since I had cat-back exhaust installed a week ago. Tends to drop a bit on weekends when I'm mostly driving locally.

I have a new 2008 5.7 and I just checked my mileage. 144 miles and 9.3 gallons or 15.5 mpg. It is mixed, about half on I-20 and half in town going back and forth to work. I also have a cover on the bed.
Six speed tranny in the 5.7 vs. 5 speed in the 4.7 is the reason.
At 70mph, you're doing about 1800 rpm's which is pretty low. And it don't necessarily shift down on every hill either. Impressive low end for a gasser.
Just got back from Las vegas on sunday, and we drove the tundra.
07 5.7L 4x4 trd, loaded with 4 adults and luggage. Set the cruise at 71-72 mph and filled up 270 miles later (avoiding vegas gas) and got 19.3 mpg on shell mid-grade. Truck has 22k on it now running all synthetic amsoil fluids, not to mention i got 30w oil in the engine.
I've had two of 4.7 4wd tundras, and considered the 4.7 for my 2008 replacement, but opted for the 5.7, for the reasons of power increase....maybe resale too although I was more interested in how it would do on the freeway, or with a load.
I liked the 4.7 more in the sense it was quieter than the 5.7, the 5.7 is really noisy on first start-up, as I have been told is a piston slap issue,
my only beef with the truck now (now that the 4wd xfer case has been replaced at 3000 miles) is the small gas tank. Nissan has the 37 gal tank on the long bed but nothing from toyota in that size--it wasn't an issue with the 4.7 as the economy was better enough to make the range do-able, but the 5.7 seems to have a much shorter range....I'm looking at fuel cell/tank options to add capacity...any ideas? Thanks!!!
