I continue to be amazed at the numbers I see for tests that time the new 5.7 Tundra over the 1/4 mile. This stock truck clocks in the high 15s.
I'm old enough to remember how hard we used to work on our old "high school hot rods" to get close to that kind of performance. Do the 1/4 mile in less than 16 seconds and you're really moving.
And as I recall, that's about as fast as you'd see from vehicles that aren't true race cars. The only vehicles that go under 15 through the 1/4 mile usually ride to and from the track on the back of flat trailers.
And you know there will be some speed junkies out there who are handy in the garage who will try and squeeze some more juice out of this truck.
Well one example is the Car and Driver test discussed below. It clocked the Tundra 1/4 mile at 15.6 seconds. Maybe other tests did get a high 14 out of it.

edmunds has it listed as 14.8s and the car and driver article talked about in the current "Car and Driver - April, '07Tundra finished 3rd out of 5 trucks" thread, TS member Buckeyefan reported it as 14.9. It definitely depends on the testing conditions though...

15 sec. 1/4 miles are pretty standard now. You can buy a 10-year old Camaro with the LS1 motor and run low-mid 13s all day. For $65k now you can buy a Corvette Z06 that will run 11s and get 26 mpg on the highway.

A Chevy running 11s? Well, that will get you to the repair shop very fast.
There are certain things you will not get the truth on, like how much money someone makes, or his real quarter mile time. When the burden of proof is removed, the embellishment begins. Like the old saying goes, the BS stops when the flag drops . Usually you can take up to a second off someone's claimed quarter mile time to get what he would actually run at a track.
13 second timeslips are not uncommon for a newer camaro firebird or mustang unmodified. The new Tundra does run great though for a vehicle that weighs as much as it does. Even a regular cab 2WD weighs about 1500# more than a camaro.
I do bracket race my 97SS camaro at 1800 feet. It is stock and it will run 13.80's and it is slower than the newer camaro's. The newer cars are very fast.
I can vouch that Tundra 5.7s are way quicker than Titan 5.6s. A little impromptu unauthorized speed contest ... one truck length from a stop in a very short distance. Definitely got the seat of the pants feel of high 14s.
Z06s will run mid/low 12s all day long. Minor mods like air boxes, pulleys and a chip ..... high 11s ..... all day long.

Ok, I have 2000SS with the LS1 engine with about 25000 miles and one of these big *** trucks pulls out of the AMD parking lot in Austin and he wants to race me and I'm like wtf? He is in front of me and he takes off and I was surprised how quickly he took off. I had no trouble overtaking him and blowing his doors off but hell from 0 to 75 it had some git up and go. Pretty bad *** truck.
I test drove several 5.7's and for a truck they are quick, for a truck. Trucks have too much weight and their aerodynamics aren't very good. When I want to get a rush I borrow the wife's summer daily driver. I went with the 4.7L. It has plenty of power to do what I want with a truck.
