Just telling ya what the service guy said. Like I said, any given dealer will say something different. But they did put in the 0-20 synthetic without being told to.
On the contrary...like I said before, it's cheaper for the dealer to use the synthetic 0W20 because the oil and filter all come in a kit together. Like you said, Toyota counts their pennies.

Just FYI, the factory fill 0W-20 for the 07+ Tundra are fully synthetic. A small portion of the 0W-20 is made by Mobil while the rest are made by Nippon Oil (whom I work for). I don't believe conventional 0W-20 are available on the market right now.
It is synthetic, it's not synthetic, it's 0W20, no, it's 5W20. Ain't it great......another one of life's mysteries.

If that's true, then the Toyota manual is incorrect. It states that Syn is not required, but if you do put in Syn, don't go back to dino. In summary, if Syn is in the truck from the factory, we must (according to the manual) only put Syn in the truck forever.

The "offical" Toyota quote above did not say you could never switch type. They said that they don't recommend switching "back and forth" (as in multiple times, without consistency).

For years corporate Toyota has advised owners against using synthetic oil until after the first oil change. Therefore it makes no sense that Toyota would use a full synthetic as the factory fill in the 2007 Tundra 5.7 engine
I am willing to bet that the factory fill is 0w20 full synthetic with break-in additives.
But I also bet, confirming that would be next to impossible.

Maybe we can get someone to grab a sample of their factory fill and send it to Blackstone Labs. Any volunteers?

Yeah just search for "oil analysis" in the Tundra section. There are a few.
Problem with them, it appears the requestor tells the lab the oil type and mileage, so again, the analysis doesn't tell us the factory fill, just the requestor's guess at it.
That how I read them at least, I may be wrong.

Toyota doesn't require synthetic oil for subsequent changes I believe, but it definitely comes with it from the factory. In fact, quite a few Toyota comes with our 0W-20 from the factory. Take a look at the attached Toyota TSB. Although an old one, you can see Toyota switching the recommendation from generally 5W-30 to a synth blend 5W-20 and fully synth 0W-20. This was prior to the new Tundra. When the new Tundra came out, more engines were switched over.
Also, switching to and from Synth to conventional is a myth. For very old vehicles (15 years +), the seals and gaskets materials used were not compatible with fully synthetic oil because they are so thin and smooth. And a lot of the additives that goes inside a synthetic oil shrinks or expands the gasket too much causing leaks. However, the technology and material used in engine parts since has been improving. They are compatible with no problems at all with switching back and forth.
Finally, Nippon Oil does make passenger vehicle lubriants. Please see attached links. In fact, Nippon Oil works with pretty much all asian vehicle manufacturers on some products.

Go to that link, scroll to automotive lubricants, gasoline engine oil. You see one named there.
You can also look at the consumer products here... yENEOS MOTOR OILzENEOS|V{Ζ|
I think the Japanese site is not listing a lot of products we make. Probably due to the constant change and the fact that we don't make the 0W-20 provided to Toyota available for sale to others. It probably is a formulation licensed to Toyota and thus only they have the rights to it.
This is pretty common. For example, the new GTR coming from Nissan uses exclusively a gear oil our company created for them. But it is only sold to Nissan and no one else, so you will not find that product in our product section.
I believe previously manufacturers did not recommend breaking in new vehicles with full synthetic oil due to how smooth it is that it will not property break in the motor. The 0W-20 provided to Toyota at factory fill and genuine oil level is a special formula created for Toyota, so it will allow proper break in.
