This bed bounce topic is getting a little out of control. Ya the bed moves around on rough roads. Would you rather feel the bounce in the cab or would you rather see it in the bed? The only time I ever notice the so called "issue" is when I'm driving over one of those plateau like speed bumps. And then its very marginal, less than my 06 Tundra or my 02 Silverado. I would guess the reason for more of the bounce in the bed might be caused by a stiffer frame which would absorb less flex? But some people are a bit pickier than I am I guess.
first off, lemme say that despite some commentary to the contrary, the bed bounce issue is real. i'm talking bone-jarring, kidney-whacking vibrations when driving over those ridged portions on freeways. i dunno what it's called, but it's those freeway sections where they cut grooves into the road. i have a 5.7L double cab with the offroad package and the bounce is REALLY bad. after about a minute, it actually hurts my kidneys!
anyway, i got an extang trifecta tonneau cover and noticed the other day that the bounce was significantly reduced. i don't understand it, can't see why it would help, but it seems to. i don't drive on grooved freeways that often so don't take this as a be-all and end-all solution - but on my short trip the other day, i did notice a huge difference. it's actually tolerable now.
maybe it was random, maybe just dumb luck. too soon to tell and draw any pseudo-scientific conclusion, but i thought i'd toss it out here...anyone else notice this?
Re: another bed bounce thread - possible solution.
I have a 4X2 Crew Max 5.7L with TRD offroad package. I notice the bed bounce even at all speeds. To me, it is more of a rear end vibration or resonance. My last two vehicles were a 2003 Tacoma with TRD and a 2005 Tundra Double Cab without TRD. My 2005 Tundra road like a Cadillac. It was fantastic. My 2007 CrewMax is definitely a rough ride, but it is only noticeable when the rear wheels hit a bump. It is very strange to me. The rear end just vibrates like crazy after hitting a bump. When people ride in the back seat, I can hear the vibration in their voice. Kinda funny, actually.
In my opinion, this is just a case of having a truck with high payload and towing capacity. In order to get that high payload and towing capacity, they've gotta make the thing strong, rigid, and use big suspension. So, it makes for a rougher ride. If the truck was not a lease, I would get a different suspension put in. Maybe something adjustable. However, I'll live with it for a few years and then get the next generation, when they've perfected it a bit.
By the way, my BakFlip cover is being delivered on Monday. If it changes anything, I'll update the thread. However, I highly doubt that it will fix the problem.
i have brand new tundra w/ trd offroad pack...
when i drive on freeway it bounce like a crazy ...
it's like when i say " AH..........., then will be " ah ah aha ah "
vibrate cuz of bouncing. on good road of freeway , it was fine.
why is that ?
what if i put tool box or some weight on bed, it will better.
or that how it is....for trd offroad shock.
Re: another bed bounce thread - possible solution.
As has been stated in several of the numerous other threads on this subject, adding weight to the back of the truck helps to lessen the rear end movements of the vehicle.
Whatever you do to increase inertia, such as adding a bed cover or shell, does just that.
Re: another bed bounce thread - possible solution.
I have 2100 miles on my 5.7 Dcab 4X4 TRD. I don't notice this bed bounce everyone is talking about, even when driving empty. HItting a bump should not cause a long vibration or shimmy. something must be wrong if this happens. So far my truck runs smooth.
Re: another bed bounce thread - possible solution.
My limited d/c does not have the trd package, but it also does not have any excess bed bounce. However it does ride more like a truck than my previous GMC.Then again my corvette z06 rode very harshly over pavement grooves, much more harshly than my tundra.
Almost every post complaining about the Tundra's bouncing is about 4X4s or TRDs. My impression of the TRD was not favorable on hard roads, I don't think it's very comfortable on the bumps in the freeway. I'm assuming Toyota designed the shocks to be beat by country roads.
Maybe most of my skepticism is misdirected, could it be the off road trucks are the animals that are being unruly on pavement?
Re: another bed bounce thread - possible solution.
What no bed bounce nay sayers in this thread yet? Have I finally found a sanctuary for my bed bounce concerns ?!?
The bed bounce is real and I just love the way some people around here get thier panties all bunched up and insist that it isn't real and how it is a big waste of precious bandwidth to even discuss such things. Thankfully some of you have a brain.
If you all want a nice "Cadillac" like ride then buy something else. I test drove the TRD 4x4 Tundra and it rides a lot smoother than my 3/4 ton Dodge Ram. You want a rough ride go test drive a 3500 Dodge 4x4 with the snow plow package and towing package. Now that is one insanely rough ride.
