Guys, I don't have my truck back yet Service manager said Monday. They installed the transmission and t/c but have to do two heatup and cool cycles to check the fluid and ran out of time this evening to do it. They are closed on Sat and Sun for service so looks like Monday.
hope it all goes well for you. i guess i dont understand the 2 heat/cool cycles. I thought it was a predetermined amount you fill a dry tranny, just as they do at the factory. I cant imagine toyota doing this on the line.......
Also, if the 6 speed is like the 5 speed I had in my 05, there is a procedure for checking the fluid, but I dont recall it requiring heat/cool cycles. Tranny up to temp with a bunch of steps after. Let us know how it goes.

Dave, can you see with the wool they pulled over your eyes? That is the biggest crock of $hit I have ever heard. They are trying to buy some time and get you off their backs for a couple days. Maybe they will tell you to pull over three times on your way home to let it cool off completely to get some more heat cycles too.
I hope you get it back soon.

I'm sure it was BS to get me to stop calling every day I just want my truck back and I was really wishing to get it back before the weekend but guess I'll have to wait until Monday. I don't necessarly blame my dealer for how long my truck sat there (two weeks next Monday), I blame Toyota for taking their long *** time to get the transmission to the dealer. The dealer only had a day and half to work on the truck b/c the transmission had just arrived yesterday May 10th, I'd rather they do it right the 1st time so I don't have to ever go back there again for the same issue. Anyway, this weekend is going to be looooooong
I agree with you they need to take the needed time to do it right. After all, it wasn't right the first time. I don't agree with their tactics of feeding you a line of crap to buy time. We've all failed to meet deadlines at one time or another. Sometimes it's beyond our control. They should have been honest and said they wouldn't be able to get it done before the weekend. I'm sure you would have understood.

That's pretty impressive for Toyota to be concerned enough with your individual problem to fly an engineer out to check it out in person. Sounds like you got taken care of better than any other warranty experience I've heard of. I wonder if the big-3 would have enough budget to fly an engineer out to investigate a customer problem in the field?
Maybe he could rent a Camry from Hertz and drive down

Do you really care what truck I have or what mods I've done? Probably not, but here they are any way:
Loaded 07 LTD 4x4 DC 5.7. ARE Cap, Yakima Rack, Toytec 3" Lift, ProComp 8166 Wheels, Nitto Terra Grappler 305/55/20's, Bullhide Spray-In Liner, Volant CAI, Black Headlight Mod, Zoomers Cat back exhaust.
Still to Come: Headers? Speaker/Sub upgrades? What else? Supercharger........? I'm sure I'll think of something.
I got my truck back from the dealer today. See the original post for all the updates during the two week period. My truck drives great, very smooth and powerful compared to the 4.7 loaner I've been driving.

Glad to hear everything seems to have worked out okay. Did your original transmission ever run as smooth as the replacement?

Yes. The original transmission shifted just as the replacement, however it just had that dreaded 1-2 second shutter when the torque convertor unlocks. Now it's butter smooth.
My service advisor hasn't heard from Toyota yet what the problem was, but he told me I would know as soon as he does. So we'll see.
I have it from a reliable source that the 5.7 might get recalled due to a cam shaft issue. I dont quite uderstand the problem but something about the cam shaft being too long.

LOL is that "T" Double Troll You have any proof or something better to give us "a link", I tend to agree, theres probably something in the works but its too early, I doubt cam length would be it, casting or forging problem I would believe. BTW GM has a bigger problem 2 transmission gears missing on the Sierra/Silverado twins
Dude is talkin about a recall on his first post?????? And his so called reliable source .... give me a break.

This will be wordy. Dealer kept truck for 1 1/2 days. Drove it several times and concluded:
1) Could not duplicate shudder.
2) What I felt like was slack in drivetrain is normal. He drove two other brand new Tundras on the lot, as well as 2 Tacomas, and said they all did it. He felt like it was related to the rear shock stagger when the truck is stopped. Something about the way the rear axle pinion angle changes and produces a slight clunk on take-off.
3) He indicated that the new 6-speed is so sophisticated that it will actually learn and remember individual driver habits and adjust accordingly (run THAT ONE by your dealer). This being said, different drivers may hear or feel different things based on driving habits?
I have to admit that prior to taking the truck back for this evaluation, I drove it on interstate on an outing for about six hours at 75 - 80 mph speeds. Not once did I feel the vibes during or after this trip. Going back to my gut instinct, which was a bad u-joint, I'm beginning to think there was a rough needle in u-joint that finally just worked itself out. Driven truck several times since and no shudder. It did happen primarily at shift points which could have unloaded u-joint for the instant I was feeling the vibes. Hell, I don't know. I'm just going to keep driving and forget it. Tons of warranty left with the additional 7 year/100K I bought. I am registered with Toyota USA and have a case number and documentation from dealer on the visits. On a side note, the truck is getting just shy of 16 mpg with a mix of driving conditions. Just got WeatherTech custom floor mats which fit and look great. Have an appointment at 9 am today for Line-X so I gotta go.
