Can you give me some advice on how to actually connect the harness to the seat belts properly. The harness did not come with instructions, and I haven't figured it out.
We got our harness at Walmart for about $15. It is a very sturdy black belt material just like a real seatbelt. There are two solid metal buckles which allow you to adjust the harness to fit any dog from 10-100+ lbs. If you put the harness on the dog properly and tighten so it is snug then the dog won't have a chance of getting out.
Then you slip the vehicle seatbelt down through a slot on the harness and click it into the vehicle seat buckle. This will stop the dog from moving all around the vehicle or going out the window. They also sell an accessory which is basically and adjustable-length seatbelt line that clips on to the harness and the other end clips directly into your vehicle seat buckle. I assume this is for use in the backseat when you might want the dog to be able to move around from side to side without being able to jump out the window, into the front, or shoot forward in the event of a wreck.
This particular harness also has a metal "D"-ring over the back shoulder area which you can attach to a rope, presumably when walking the dog outside of the vehicle. I plan to get the free factory seatbelt extender from Toyota and then use it to connect a tether to the harness so I don't have to buy the accessory cord from the manufacturer. Our 11 lb. dog Biskit will then sit in his travel bed on top of the center console with the harness on and the tether line connected to the center seat buckle in the back seat. We will make the tether long enough for him to move around on the console or in the backseat so he should be comfortable. Here are some pics of him ready to roll without the harness - haven't taken him on a trip yet after getting the harness.

hey wilee thats exactly the way my dog rides and she loves it. whats that in your cup holder? looks like a coin holder?
anytime i see a dog in the back of a truck and there is room in the truck i just shake my head. (sideways of course) so many things can go wrong not to mention excessive heat or cold or even road debris in their eyes. how about the rocket scientists that let fido stick its head out the window at 60mph. umm.... check your grill and see what has the potential to whack your poor doggy in the eye!

Yep, a coin holder with a hidden compartment in the base for cash, keys, or whatever. Walmart sells it for $3.00 and you can also find it at misc. auto parts stores and even some dollar stores, although the Walmart brand was better quality. Works great.
And I agree with you on the dogs. Not humane to let them ride in the bed or hang out the window, or to lock them in a hot car in the summer.

Well, this is how I carry one of my dogs... well, it's not really my dog, it's my baby sister's malti-poo... she kinda went off to college and I'm stuck with this rat-dog... My dog is a retarded mutt who is afraid of cars/trucks...
Luckily, I dunno about your trucks, but if you get the bucket seats, you get this fancy dog seat.

He fits in there perfectly. Now, I know you are asking, well, there's no seat belt, what if he jumps out?
Well, the dog seat comes with this awesome restraining device/cap/cover.

And if you stick the leash out as pictured, you can discipline your dog with a quick tug, slamming him against the side of the doggy chair. It's very convenient.

Geez. It's just a dog.
P.S. I used to be rocket scientist before returning to run the family farm.....

Thats why Mutley wears goggles?
I use a delivery truck spider web for the bed, they just get stuck back there, only problem is you got to turn the stereo up, so you wont hear any whining in the cab.
I wouldn't ever put either of my dogs in the open bed without some kind of restraint. Years ago I was sitting at a stop light at a very busy intersection waiting to make a left turn. I was admiring two beautiful Border Collies in the back of the truck in front when one of them saw something off the right side, jumped out and was hit instantly by a car going full speed straight through the inersection on a green light. I backed my truck out to block that lane and give the driver some cover so he could tend to his dog. I think it was one of the saddest things I've ever seen...the owner crying uncontrollably over the broken body of his wife's dog. It turns out the other dog was his. After a few minutes, I took his dog, put it in the cab of his truck, he put the body of his wife's dead dog in the back, and another guy moved the truck into a nearby parking lot since the owner was too upset to drive. I left about the time he called home to tell his wife what had happened.
Besides being illegal in many states, it is a tragedy that is totally preventable.

Come on now, admit it, we know that the dog rules the house and probably makes you sit in the back when he is driving his new Tundra...
Haha, no way! When he sees me he just rolls over submissive. When he realizes I'm not mad at him, he's totally happy. He totally owns my little sister though... (He even peed on her once to "mark" her, she got so mad... hahahaha).

GIven what I've seen him eating out in the back yard, I doubt he cares about the bugs on his teeth.
That is such an awesome picture. Cosmo rocks!

OMG, that totally sucks. I would be devastated too, man I don't even want to think about that happening to mine.
