$590 over 3 years = $21,240... I hope the tundra dosen't lose that much value in 3 years...
Yes I think it's high, when I priced leases they started me out at $625 a month. I shat myself and said FOR A LEASE?! they said what looks good, I said $300, they said no! how about $450, I said you go down from $625 to $450 how?! yada yada yada... I got them to give me the paperwork on the lease, did the math at home and the lease should of been ~$360.00 with the intrest compounded monthly on MSRP.
I purchased with 10k down my payments are $406
-k
No, im paying $590 for 5 years which is $35,400. My payoff is $13k in 5 years because i'm paying for the 15k mile per year lease. Call me stupid if you want to. I only lease because i am self employeed & i can write off the whole payment.
Yeah, they have a lot of BS fees, taxes, and junk added in there.
Can you write off purchase payments? Not calling you stupid, you got the 5.7! I would of leased if the payments were $300 but then I thought about it and I would like to keep this truck till it dies so I opted for purchase, didn't want to pay 5 years on a truck and then have to pay another 5 years to purchase (13k would be $240 a month) but by then you can get the twin turbo diesel tundra SHD...

No, you can only take depreciation, not the payments. Our company pays the payment and it doesn't bother me at all. I may keep the truck but who knows, they may have a 5.7 hybrid that gets 25+ mpg then. Dunno
If i do keep it however, the 13k payoff is nothing to me. I'll just write them out a check & be done with it.
Who knows how reliable this truck is going to be now. I may have to resort to the lemon law or dump it and get a new one. Dunno, we'll see.
Good to hear your problem was solved and that good service was provided. Probably a defective motor I would guess, or a defective part.
As for the motor alone costing $20,000, that's impossible. A brand new 5.7L probably costs somewhere between 4-6K.
It was a defective part and there are 40-50 other 5.7's that may have the same problem. Toyota is narrowing it down to the trucks effected so they can start sending letters.

20k is what i was told the motor retails for.
Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like a small issue that was caught very early on if only 40-50 engines are affected. Good that Toyota immediately got on top of the problem.
If 20K is the actual retail price for the motor, it must be a very inflated price due to the limited production capability and high demand for the 5.7L. At this point in time, production capacity for the 5.7L is at a high premium, so it's quite likely why the retail price is jacked so high. Realistically, the motor should not retail for any more than 7K, as I hear it's quite cheap to build. Toyota uses the same new build process for the 5.7L UR V8 as it does for the 3.5L GR V6.
Only down side I see is that your truck will show a replacement engine at trade in. The serial numbers are not going to match. I think as long as you buy another Toyota at the same dealership, they will treat you right about it. If you trade for something else or at a different dealership, you MAY take a beating on the trade in. Otherwise, I think your getting a decent deal from Toyota.
Wrong.
Factory replacement engines come code stamped - with a paper trail telling all as to why it is now in the vehicle.
A Dealer installed engine rates with a Factory installed engine - and the less mileage on the engine vs the body plays in favor of the reseller:
"Has a Dealer installed brand new engine at xxxx miles - Factory Warranted".
Trade in will be more favorable - as the resellers have more positive aspects to talk about - seen this a few times.
Toyota cams are hollow - made with a special mfg. process - could have been the materials at the time - could have been a machining flaw - an inclusion in the metal - a stress riser that arose during the mfg. process.
Toyota will hunt the numbers thru batches of material delivery / usage dates to create a 'watch list' should more failures arise.
All in all - no downside outside of your lost time / usage.
Good to hear there's no downside other than downtime.
LATEST UPDATE!!!!!
Picking my truck up tomorrow at noon.
What toyota has done in my case:
1- Brand new complete motor from the factory.
2- 7yr/100,000 mile platinum warranty w/ zero deductible.
3- $590 check written out to myself for one month lease payment.
4- Repaired faulty tire pressure monitor under warranty ( my tire store broke one & put a new one on) So even though it probably was my fault, they are covering it under warranty.
5- Replaced rear slider that my boy broke. Cost to me= $471.00
6- Repaired rattley back doors when you close it.
7- Plus a complete detail and cleaning.
All this in 16.5 days.
I guess we'll see if i'm satisfied with it all tomorrow.
I may actually have my truck to go camping on Thursday. Just found out the tracking # on my hitch, & it was in SLC this morning (UPS). So, hopefully.
I have a random question. The engine is replaced.. do they replace the ECU and Speedo so they are @ 0 miles? Or do they leave the original?
They always note the original miles and put this on a sticker on the door. The Speedo and ECU probably will get reset to 0 miles, but the true body mileage will be on the sticker on the door that they are required to affix.
4- Repaired faulty tire pressure monitor under warranty ( my tire store broke one & put a new one on) So even though it probably was my fault, they are covering it under warranty.
OTFM,
Thanks for all the updates on this saga. I'm a first time Toyota buyer and its nice to see the manufacturer take care of its customers.
Naturally I'm now a little paranoid though whether my 5.7 is one of the bad eggs. Guess time will tell.
I do seem to have a defective tire pressure monitor, though. I'm probably going to take it in tomorrow and have it looked at.

Read back a little, the lease rate was discussed in some detail. Let's all just wish OTFM the best.........
