they still make them for Toyota aisin makes the 6 speed too..

Aisin does make good trannys. They make the only respectable tranny in the Dodge Ram series, unfortunately its only available on the "Cab Only" model (IE the one with no bed that will be outfitted with various other configs).
toyota is use to building rice bangers and isnt experienced in building real FULL SIZE trucks yet like the american truck manufacturers. This is there first full size truck. The first gen is a medium size truck. EX My 2005 dodge ram 1500 is 4.4inches wider than the 1st gen tundras. Itll tow over 2000 more lbs.

The First gen tundrs was classified from the EPA as Full Sized yet it's 7/10 of a scale in my opinion. Cobb Toyota Nice to see someone local..

Unlike ANY American truck maker, Toyota has a long history of building little 4 and 6 cylinder engines that are built so tough they can reliably power 6,500 pound motorhomes like this one

No need to be rude. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, I understand that. This is a Toyota forum, please respect that.
Furthermore, I have read your posts and it is clear to me that you have nothing positive to offer to this forum.
toyota has never built a mass produced motor this powerful, in saying that , you have to understand outsourcing, toyota cannot control every machine process. case and point, look at how many $25-50k race engines break, even though that part was designed to live in that enviroment, things just happen. just think in two years toyota may go to direct injection(20hp) increase
Dude, no offence to you but your opinion is dumb!
If Toyota decides to built something like 5.7 ... I could care less how many 50k race engines break. I will grind their A.S.S just because I paid a premium for a truck whose camshafts are breaking, while there is no recall for anything along those lines.
Furthermore, Toyota is known for their quality. If they dare to produce and not monitor the quality of something like a "camshaft breaking" in the 5.7 ... they should pay the price. Maybe all these truck guys complaining will get them to think twice about their QC.
When I pay my money for a $40k truck, I expect to get something in return!!!
Camshafts breaking and me saying "sh^% happens" is not worth my money.

Yes, you did pay a premium for a truck and it is a premium truck. The camshaft issue is because they are outsourcing that to an american company. I wish they didn't, they should keep as much in house as possible. Then their QC would be excellent as it always has been for me. Toyota is closely monitoring these issues and they will take measures to take care of those owners. If an owner is effected, they will send letters out and replace the motors in those trucks. Yes, i think they have a few issues on QC that is concerning. However, these issues (which amount to about 3%) will be handled well. This cam issue happened to me at 3000 miles. Toyota took very good care of me on it if you haven't read my posts.
7/100k platinum warranty for free ($1800 pkg.), plus 1 month's lease payment & a whole new complete motor.
I guarantee you that Toyota will take care of you better than any of the big 3 would if you do have a problem.
If your build date is later than April, then you should have no worries.

nothing worse than ignorance , other than posts left by ignorance
Glad to see 99.9% of the people here are positive and very helpfull
I always cringe when I see people writing to tell you to Demand a new this or that. I know it is easy for me to say but crap happens. Let the guys fix it how they see fit. It will still be under warranty for years to come. You love your truck, heck I love your truck. Its not worth the aggravation to get into a pissin contest with the dealership...........yet. Lets see what happens. My opinion and I am sticking to it.
Cheers.
I'd want them to tear down the entire engine clean it all out to ensure there are no metal shavings floating around. So really the only reason I'd want a new engine is the fear that they won't do this. I'd also feel like there are a lot of modern machanics that are incompetent when it comes to tearing an engine down and putting it back together correctly.
Even when I had a performace engine built up which included machining I found bolts overtightened later causing stripped threads. Just seems like there are too many people in the industry that do stuff half @ss.
I have a new toyota crewmax. 1800 miles. no towing or hard driving. Today I was driving and the engine quit. I was able to restart and drive no faster than 4 mph .. I couldn't rev up the engine. I was able to get to a position and park it. I waited for the tow truck. I could restart, back up and drive forward... very slowly.
The 4 low light was flashing, the check engine light was on, along with a couple of other lights. All gauges were normal.
I spoke to the dealer, they didn't say what it could be. Are these symptoms of camshaft failure?
I picked up my Toyota mid May.... I will let the group know what I find out.
I wanted to respond to this situation - It ended up being a bent pin on the throttle actuator switch. The dealer was great to work with..
Glad to hear that. it seems like a lot of these "My enigine/tranny is blown up" threads appear not to be as they seem. Glad to see they took care of it.
I read online that there were 20 or so trucks with this same problem . Toyota said they were rushed to launch 5.7 motor for summer of 2007 , and they think they have the problem fixed now ....... hopefully they do !
