20 out of 80,000+ is pretty good odds for us 5.7L owners!

I sure am glad I went with the 4.7, they sure seems to be a few issues popping up with the new 5.7 and the tranny as well.

Toyota needs to get this right the first time.

Rushed to launch for the summer? This engine was out in February.

I'd like to know how long toyota has been subbing out some of their engine parts to american companies?

Yes, they were in a rush with the 5.7 & evidentally screwed up the molding process with the first batch of cam's. This is what i was told anyway.

Toyota's policy is to localize component production as much as is practical.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think these types of parts are typically forged and then precision ground. With regard to "rushing" to market with this engine I have no doubt that they were pushing to get this new drivetrain production ready. There is also a very formal and rigorous qualification process that can not and would not have been bypassed, particularly on a new model like this. Having said that, obviously they had a problem with some of these parts (although I don't ever remember hearing that it was the first batch as you say) but it looks like it was found quickly and as far as I know has been a non-issue ever since.
