I read online that there were 20 or so trucks with this same problem . Toyota said they were rushed to launch 5.7 motor for summer of 2007 , and they think they have the problem fixed now ....... hopefully they do !
Rushed to launch for the summer? This engine was out in February.

I'd like to know how long toyota has been subbing out some of their engine parts to american companies?
Toyota's policy is to localize component production as much as is practical.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think these types of parts are typically forged and then precision ground. With regard to "rushing" to market with this engine I have no doubt that they were pushing to get this new drivetrain production ready. There is also a very formal and rigorous qualification process that can not and would not have been bypassed, particularly on a new model like this. Having said that, obviously they had a problem with some of these parts (although I don't ever remember hearing that it was the first batch as you say) but it looks like it was found quickly and as far as I know has been a non-issue ever since.
