How about posting up the facts and details on what happened, and how Toyota dealt with this problem?
OK, now just give the guy a break will ya. From what I can tell from his posts, this happened sometime between Saturday May 5, 2007 and Monday May 7, 2007. He is not going to have a bunch of information at this point. OTFM will post information as he gets it I am sure, but relax on the demands.

The motor is not 20,000,it's more like 7000. toyota will probably replace the motor and take the bad one to find out exactly what happened.
Just to let you know,,, Currant Toyota Factory list is $19556.43 on a 5.7L Long block

Yes, the title is right. Broken camshaft on the new 5.7 L.
Going down the freeway w/ cruise set at 70 & started loosing speed & had to pull over. I then started it about 10 more times so i could get off the freeway & put it on the flatbed & towed it to SLC with my bro's tundra.
They do not know why it happened. Maybe overtorqued bolts, maybe it was dropped during assembly. They will be tearing into the heads in the morning & i'll know more then. I was told if something else caused it to break, then toyota will more than likely send out a new motor.
Should i demand a new motor?
Or, should i demand an extended warranty?
I feel like i should be concerned with future potential problems. And i think i should demand something.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated, Thanks
I would ask for another New Tundra im sure they can honer that request. When it comes to engine part's I don't mess with replacement's it's not going to be the same. I recall a post from a Ts member that had Toyota mess up his engine during an oil change on his 4.7 liter iforce v8 and Toyota not having a new up crate engine and doing a rebuilt engine I wouldn't take that Pos knowing very well problem's can occur later on.
However, I don't see TS Support going in and removing those posts? It matters not.
Nope...but we do read the threads. For the most part, we expect that a bunch of mature adults who recently purchased 40k$+ trucks can sort themselves out . When they can't, we trim.
FWIW I got the sarcasm...but it's always best to put a few of these at the end or people don't know you're just yanking their chain .
OTFM, hope it works out for you. 20K$ for an engine! Bet you're glad it's under warranty . Some great advice here, I got nuthin to add...

I am relaxed. I just would expect if it was my truck my dealer better be all over it, and if it happened on Saturday and this is Tuesday I would have thought he would know what's going on by now. Maybe some dealers are slower than others. To me, breaking a cam is something which should get alot of people involved, and the attention of as many others. I will await more information with patience...
OTFM, Man i'm sorry to hear about the break down. I had heard on another forum that it had happened before. I would demand a new motor at least. I can't imagine what kind of crack rock toyota was smoking asking 20k for an engine. I'm not sure about the new gm 6.0 but the last model lq9 was about 5k "i was thinking about putting one in my avalanche." I wouldn't let an isolated issue defer me away from a truck i love though. If toyota fixes the problem properly then that is all that can be asked for. New vehicles are going to have occassional random problems. It just sucks to be the one who got the rotten apple. Good luck

That is an insane price for the 5.7!!! Wow. But then again you can't really compare the cost of a Toyota motor to a Chevy. Those small block and big block Chevy motors are everywhere. You can't walk around a corner without tripping over a small block chevy. Thats a legend right there
I'm sure Toyota will cover everything, just hard to say exactly what they'll fix.

I hope Toyota now has a new crate engine because they dont have them for the 4.7 liter iforce v8..
I repeat Do NOt allow them to do a rebuilt Engine on your brand New 2007 Tundra demand for a New Engine or another New Tundra whichever comes first make that very clear how you want this handled..
Kept us posted another reason why to avoid the first model year..
We all have to step back and look at this realistically... All mechanical things can break....
There can be all kinds of circumstances,,,, We had a new 07 Tundra here that lost a power steering pump (hard to blame a new truck ) It had a hard life so far mud and grass in engine compartment skid plates scraped hard ,,, But the next day we had a tacoma in with 2000 miles same thing blown power steering pump,,, and the tacoma has been out 3 years,,,
That is why new cars and trucks have warranties,,, In most cases we may never have an issue but there is always that chance,,,,,

FWIW If I were in your shoes I would push for a new engine. Why? If a portion of your drivetrain stopped moving while the pistons continued to move you may have had piston to valve contact. If they just replace the cam and send you on your way you won't really know if the valves kissed the pistons.

Sheesh. The guy should get a new motor. Sheared parts mean that unless there's a 100% teardown, cleaning, then re-assembly, they're taking a chance, even if it's small. If it had 50kmi on it, then I could see them half stepping. But 3Kmi? $20K for the motor is a farce. Outrageously artificially inflated, like Toyota does with catalytic converters. Toyota should take that motor back to HQ and dope it out there and let the customer go on with his life. That would be the right thing to do.
