OTFM, I noticed in your sig. that you have a JAG 5th wheel as well. Had you been pulling the 5th wheel when this happened?

Honestly, this guy deserves a new truck. I would be hot if this happened to me. Yes, I understand that things are mechanical and can break down but look at the price you are paying for this vehicle. I would demand another truck.

I think we would all be "hot" if this happened to our new truck but the reality of it is Toyota will do whatever it takes to make the man happy provided it is "reasonable". I have never seen anyone get a new truck (regardless of brand) because of an engine failure of any kind. They will simply either repair or replace the engine as necessary and most likely will provide additional warranty coverage etc. Anything more than this and I will be very impressed!

It was a post by DavidT. on 05/01 about how Toyota sent an engineer out to see his truck and deem a new transmission was in order.

Just in case you are going there. A load on the engine will have absolutely no bearing on the camshafts. About the only load the cam sees is valve spring pressures.

Okay,

Just talked to the service manager today and here is the verdict.

Rep looked at it today all torn to $hit and said we can't just replace the cam, we're sending you a new complete motor straight from the factory. Just as if it were going to be placed in a new truck.
It will have intake & exhaust manifolds and the whole nine yards. They may be using the existing heads, but dunno.

Needless to say, i am very pleased they are bending over backwards for me. Yeah, it sucks that it has happened but you know what, at least i'll be taken care of.
I don't know if i should still ask for the extended warranty or not?

I think i will call & ask about my $471 rear window, and maybe a bugshield.
Maybe they'll help, dunno.

Thanks guys, looks like i got 2 more pages of posts here to read.

You're right, i'm getting a whole new motor.

Another thing everybody.......

Around the time my truck was manufactured, there are 40-50 trucks w/ the 5.7L that will be getting new camshafts, or new motors if it breaks down.
They want the cam so they can research the stamped number on it to determine approx time of defective part being manufactured. They have had one other truck out there with this problem. So they said.

I made that post in complete jest. Why? Because it seems that you (check your posts) and others have called or insinuated that I was a liar because I stated problems with my truck. I added the video proof line to beat CooperS to the punch as that seems to be the only way he will believe anything. There is not one comment above that has not been made about me. However, I don't see TS Support going in and removing those posts? It matters not.

My Toyota is not perfect and neither is yours. I actually feel for you as no one wants to have their brand new vehicle break down or be anything less than perfect. I hope you get a new engine installed quickly. I also hope they give you a 5.7 Tundra loaner while you are waiting for yours to be repaired. You are lucky compared to me because you have an easily identifiable and impossible to refute problem.

I was just razzing you and I hope you can understand my sarcasm (It happens when everything you say is met with resistance). This is said with complete honesty, I take no satisfaction in your truck being broke down and hope it is resolved quickly and to your satisfaction.

I don’t recall who made the post, but someone did mention sometime back that there were some cases of broken camshafts. This is not the first time I have heard of this.

MLN
Thanks, sorry about the lick me post. I was right in the middle of the Jazz vs. the warriors last night when i posted. So my adrenaline was running high. He!! of a game......go jazz. hahahaha

I knew they would come thru for you ....... Ask nicely about the extended warranty - tell them you need it so you will have confidence in the truck. Losing the motor at such a low mileage has spooked you and that the warranty will make you feel much better about the whole ordeal.
Keep us posted!

It's highly unlikely that they'll be using your old heads as the broken camshaft sat in one of them. Most likely it'll be a fully assembled tested engine that's ready to go. Sounds like you did OK.

Drove truck about 10 miles to the store, hit the freeway & made it half way on the freeway with cruise set and all of a sudden started loosing speed. I thought, WTF? Cruise set at 70 & kept dropping speed eventually coming to a complete stop on the side of the freeway. Oh, ck engine light was on too. Then i started the truck (sounded like a powerstroke) and it would barely even idle. 2 or 3 other lights were blinking on the dash also. I didn't want to leave it on the freeway in fear for my life. So i started the truck 10-15 more times (it would idle but as soon as i put the gas down it would sputter & then die) so i could limp off the freeway.
Called wife to rescue me ( THEE first for me with toyota). Called several tow companies & nobody home.......nice.
Then i called my bro to bring dad's flatbed & pick me up. Then we went & coaxed my truck onto the trailer (had to start again 4-5 times). Didn't think it was going to happen, but we got it loaded. Brother's 07 tundra handled the 7k lb. load very well & didn't even sag the rearend down very much.

Then we dropped it off at the dealership's front entrance at the gate & put my key in the drop box.

See other posts of mine on page 4 of this thread for more info.
