We all like to talk about how superior our new '07's are to the domestics.
And how this will hurt the domestic truck volume, etc.
While both of these are probably true, esp the part about superiority, perhaps to the level of being rendered little more than an academic point, I think there's another truck that I don't see talked about on here...
...a silent victim.
That truck being the Nissan Titan.
Think about it, the world for full size trucks used to be
*domestics or domestics
then it was
*domestics or the Titan
So, anyone wanting a break from domestics, or willing to try something new, tried the Titan.
But now we have the Tundra, the clear better choice...
Seems to me, the target Tundra consumer (other than new entrants to the catagory) is Titan owners, or former Titan shoppers.
Ie, if you're a Titan owner, and buying a new truck, surely you'd buy a Tundra.
If you're a domestic owner, and thinking of going to the dark side, you'd probably buy a Tundra, not a Titan.
I don't know, I'm talking myself in circles at this point, and I'm getting lost enough to not remember what I was talking about.
Hey, look, there goes a chicken!!

Some auto magazine road tests have scored the Titan ahead of the Tundra, and Nissan has been kicking Toyotas butt in some segments (e.g. the Infiniti M35 always scores ahead of the Lexus ES350 in magazine road tests). So Nissan appears to be holding its own against Toyota.
The Titan engine and tranny are tested and proven designs. The Tundra 5.7 and 6-speed tranny are not and the couple resports of broken camshafts on the 5.7 and one report of a defective 6-speed transmission are a bit scary and hopefully very isolated incidents.
Sounds to me like you feel a little insecure or something..... If there's something that IS obvious it's the fact that obviously a majority of truck buyers last week, last month, last year, and the last several decades seem to prefer "other" trucks over the Tundra. I don't see that changing in the near future. Sorry, but that's reality as opposed to your opinion.
I have considred the Titan. It has a proven drive train. There were problems with the brakes on earlier models. It doesnt have a 6 speed
and suffers from lower gas milage. IMO it doesnt look as good as a Tundra, but looks dont make a truck. Its priced lower but fewer combinatons to choose from. All in all there is nothing wrong with the Titan, a good value in a truck.

not in same segment.
M35 is mid luxury segment and competes with GS 350, ES 350 is in near luxury segment
Perhaps you meant G35?
ES sells a lot more - from Jan-April ES has sold 24,594
M35/M45 combined has only sold 8,137 from Jan-Apr
I, for one, am a prime example of what njc has posted. I had my mind made up as of January to buy a Titan. I waited a year, had my plan...
Then some joker I work with says "oh man, I went to the auto show, you should see the new Tundra".
The Tundra? says I, it's not a real truck (yeah, I see the error of my ways NOW!), its not full size and its not a mini-truck, its lost in between like the Chebby Colorado.
"No, pull it up on line" says the joker to me (the theif? ).
I watched the online videos and ads, I was sold. Well, mostly.
So, I made a plan and informed the wife:
We test drove in one day, in this order:
5.7L Tundra DoubleCab SR5
5.6L Nissan Titan SE Crew Cab
5.4L Ford Lariat SuperCrew
5.3L Chevy Silverado LTZ
This took almost 6 hours and I had certain dealerships (Furd) calling me every stinkin' day trying to make a deal.
In my obvioously biased and moronic opinon the Silverado was the only thing that came close and it was more expensive than the Tundra!
So, there you go, that's how I came to be in your midst. Sorry about that, but unless I get banned, I'm here to stay!
I, for one, owned a titan for 2 1/2 years and put on 36k miles. Brakes were an issue but were resolved. Gas mileage was a constant 12 mpg. but the power was always there. Looks were questionable but it grows on some. My biggest problem with the titan was the way the interior was wearing. The fabric on the seats came directly from Kmart and wore horribly. The dash and door panel plastic were wearing through with everyday touches. The steering wheel leather was falling apart. I couldn't imagine what the truck was going to look like after 100000 miles.
Now let's talk Tundra. 16 mpg after 800 miles, Looks that kill on first impression, power, power, power, and interior materials that are way up on the quality scale. Sorry Titan but you had to go!
I too considered a titan le crew cab before I bought my crewmax. It's a very tempting package when you figure fully loaded it can be had for 10,000 dollars less than the Tundra. In the end I'm a sucker for new and better, so I bought the Tundra. I liked its creature comforts and Toyota resale and reliabilty over the Titan low price tag.
I too was an adamant Tundra fan until this last purchase of an 07 Tundra. This is about my sixth Toyota bought new.
However, next time I think I am going with someone else, in about 2-3 years. Granted I like the Tundra, but the overall experience (the sale, the salesman, dealer work...etc) is much worse now than in 05 when I bought BOTH a 4Runner and a Tundra within a month of each other. Again, I like the truck...but have decided it is just a truck, and not doing backflips over it.
I have had more problems with my 07 in 5 weeks than I had with my 05 in almost 2 years. True it is under warranty, but a pain in the *** and an inconvenience.
Next trade though, I think the Tundra is going to get traded for a GMC... and Toyota can keep their smugness and arrogance.
The titan has so much cheap chrome and cheesy exterior add ons that it should be called the bling machine. It looks goofy. Tows great, but Consumer Reports doesn't give it a good review. I test drove one as well, but never considered it again after I left their lot. I agree with original post that the Titan is a victim here and that I would expect their sales to take a big percentage loss compared to last year.

I would like to know where you saw a Consumer Reports review on this truck. I am a subscriber and I haven't seen a complete review yet. All I've seen so far is a model overview and the only negative comments were a stiff ride for the TRD and skimpy front headroom.
Have they done a complete test on this truck yet? If so I would like to read it.
