I have read a post about possible ways to disable the drl like cutting wires, turning it off by a tech, or switching a relay. Today I was in my home town visiting a close friend who is a master tech at a toyota dealership and I was telling him about the drl. OK my tundra DOES NOT have drl and I am one of the few who would like to have it so we plugged in the laptop to see if we could turn it on. There was no way to turn off or on the drl and when I told him about switching relays, we went into parts to see if there was a different # for the relay. There are 2 relays that will work, one with drl and one without. The relay with drl is around $60 (I don't want drl that bad) so this is what I am thinking, if there was someone in the DFW area with a 07 Tundra with drl and does not want that option, we could switch relays and see if something that simple would work. Sorry for the long post but this site is awesome for people who want to learn and take pride in their new Tundra.

Jeff
what relay is it and do you have the part # of each one? i am willing to buy the non DRL one just to see if it will get rid of them
The part #I got was for the non drl flasher # 81981-0C020 and the one with drl flasher is #81980-0C010. If anyone tries this, please post to see if it works and also double check my part #'s with the parts dept.
Since DRL is merely the turn signal lamps on, what better way to enable or disable than to change flasher units? Well done bit of detective work, cujo98ta.
If that's all it takes, then those who wish they did (or didn't) have DRL, now have a way to remedy that little situation.
Judging by this PDF, one would only have to clip wire 8 on the ECU and install a switch. Simple on/off for DRL. I may be wrong, but it looks pretty strait forward to me.

I've posted on other threads regarding DRLs because I've moved to Canada and DRLs are required and my Tundra is the non-DRL non-ABS variety. I called Toyota hotline twice and they gave me the runaraound about changing the feature. They made it seem complicated, and also stated that they would not tell me even "if" they knew how because it is a safety feature (even turning the safety feature ON?!)
It just wouldn't make sense to make this a complicated thing. It would be stupid from an assembly line view to have such a difference in manufacturing the two types of vehicles.

That might just be the best of both worlds, and if an unused dashboard switch cover plate could be replaced with an OEM-style rocker switch, it would have a factory look as well.
Put it right next to the "seatbelt buzzer silencer" switch.
Where is the ECU on the 07 Tundra DC. I replaced the non-DRL signal relay with the DRL one but they don't come on. It looks like the link from ECU-08 to Sig-05 is missing. I would like to try getting this operational.
Does anyone know the wire colors for these wires?
You cannot enable DRL's just by changing the flasher unit. Do a search for DRL, there are now several threads on this subject.
Mustang has researched, and I paid some bucks to have the tech at my dealer research and physically compare trucks with and without DRL's.
The problem is that the ECU is different also, and there are several different ECU's used in the Tundra, depending on your options. Both my dealer and Mustang have told me that they would not be able to tell me which ECU unit to get that would have the DRL enabled in it. It's also a $600+ cost just for the part!
I have now had a set of PIAA 2192's installed in the slots in the front fascia.
I use them for DRL's and also use them for driving lights at night.
Hope this helps you.
Steve

Why would you want to get rid of DRLs (Im guessing thats for Daytime Running Lights?)
If you have them most insurance companies will give you a discount for having them. I have USAA and they do. I also had Progressive and I know they do as well. Just some food for thought, sorry for the interuption....
