I'm really enjoying my Tundra. I've noticed one thing however that I have never noticed before in other vehicles I have driven.
If I am at a full stop and then release the brake pedal and push the accelerator gently, there is what feels like a slight pause before the transmission responds. Its hard to describe really, but you can feel a slight hesitation then feels like it kicks into gear. The truck doesn't shudder or anything, but you can sort of feel it through the pedal if that makes sense.
This only happens from a COMPLETE stop. If I do a rolling stop, this does not happen. And if you hit the gas hard from a dead stop, its not noticeable because of how quickly it takes off. I don't know a lot about transmissions, but its my understanding that there is a part called an idler that allows the flywheel to spin when at a complete stop? Then it engages when you start rolling?
Not sure how it applies here or if it even does, but I am hearing that many new vehicles don't have a throttle cable from the gas pedal to the engine. They are somehow electronically controlled.....This may be produce the delay you talk about and yes I noticed it also during my test drives or this beast. Can anybody clear this up or am I just a gullable nut job.
No answer to your question but I feel it too in my 07Tundra, one could only hope that is the way it is supposed to work.
Would welcome a reply from someone who has the technical explanation of why this occurs
I have noticed the exact thing that has been described here with my Crewmax. I thought maybe once the truck has some miles on it this might go away. However, I am over 1700 miles now and it is still doing it. As you noted it is ever so slight. Curious to see other comments on this issue.
I believe it is going into what would be considered a "nuetral" taking the load off the motor to conserve fuel.

this truck and most new cars use drive by wire .. that means you dont have a throttle cable and you have a motor in your throttle body that opens and closes ... it is not as fast as a cable throttle body and can be really annoying on a manual car but with a automatic trans it is bearable ... but you can still notice it
now lets all pray that it doesent turn out to be like the nissan throtttle bodies that go bad all the time
I have the same thing. Don't think it's hesitation in the drive by wire, as fuel is getting to the engine and the RPM increase. Also not sure if it's the "neutral" theory either, as the truck will move and you can tell the tranny is engaged. Best way I can describe it, is that it reminds me of a clutch that's slipping on a manual.
Yes, this more accurately describes what I'm referring to. The truck moves, but doesn't "kick in" until after this slight pause. I am relieved to hear that others are noticing it. Maybe its completely normal.

Probably a mixture the the "drive by wire" system AND traction control.

Hmmm... good thought. I'm going to try it with traction control disabled and see if it makes a difference. I haven't touched the traction control button yet. Press it twice to completely disable right?

Press once, then press and hold for 3 seconds.
