Blowing 15 amp fuses after Snugtop Supersport shell was put on.
Guys. Help me out on this one. My truck is five days old. I drove it for 4 days with no problems. I had a Snugtop Supersport shell put on yesterday from a reputable dealer. The shell looks sweet. I get home and turn the truck off, go back out an hour later and I turn the truck on and I can't put it in reverse. I checked the brake fuse in the fuse box and it was blown. I called the Snugtop dealer that installed it and told them what was going on. He agreed that if it was running great for 4 days and then blowing fuses after the shell was installed, there must be some wires touching or causing the fuse to blow. I drove it back to the Snugtop dealer, they checked and double checked there wiring but couldn't see anything that might be causing the fuse to blow. They decided to disconnect the 3rd brake light on the shell and leave the shell wiring disconnected for now. He said I could keep the shell on the truck but they would order me a new one. It's only been a few hours since it's been disconnected and I'm praying I don't blow anothe fuse. I'll really be confused if I blow a fuse and the shell wiring isn't connected. The snugtop installer seems to think the wiring in the shell could be bad and might be causing the fuse to blow. Any thoughts on this. It's just to early to deal with this crap when the truck is only a week old. Thx.

Fuses usually blow pretty quick, the dealer for the shell should have techs that can diagnose a short in the shell. Like a ohm meter across the hot lead to ground wire should be open no continuity.
Your truck is behaving like it should with the fuse poping to prevent burning up the wiring.

Let me know how this shakes out. I have the SnugTop on order for my Tundra, it should be in within a couple of weeks. I also ordered the interior "dome" light connected to the battery. Does yours have that?

We have the shell totally disconnected now but it's still on the truck. I'm gonna freak today if I go to drive the truck and a fuse blows. That will make no sense because the now the shell is not wired at all. These guys don't seem to be the brightest either. They would rather just send the shell back and get me brand new one. I'm fine with that. I'll keep you posted.

It's a sweet shell and looks great. Yeah, mine has the interior dome light and also I went with the option of the rear view sliding glass that is on hinges and you can un latch it to clean the both sides of the glass. Hard to explain but I'm sure you know the the three glass features.

Here's my SnugTop, installed today!!
Front window slider and fold down for cleaning, plus the 12V dome light.
Snug Top does a very clean install with the hold down clamps hidden and tied into the Side Rails. None of those huge ugly C-clamps seen on other installs. Should have gotten a picture of that.

Your brake light circuit must have a short, somewhere in the wiring to the 3rd light wiring. That might not blow the breaker when you step on the brakes briefly, but would for longer stops. If the light breaker is gone, you can't shift because that electrical signal releases the shift interlock.
Should be a simple fix. I don't understand why they want to supply a complete new top. Maybe the wiring is completely hidden?

I don't know why you would be so surprised. electrical things usually break right away or last a long time.
Sounds like a pinched wire. Finally wore through the insulation and shorted out. How does the cap wires tie into the truck? could be they forgat a grommet and the wire got nicked.
Anyways nice top. how much did it set you back?

And yet the OP still hasn't reported back the solution.
And talk about not having anything better to do than say it is 2years old.
I guess we are all in the same boat.
although I missed it because the 2 post before mine were new
