That really surprises me. The Toyota hasn't even been out that long, how does anyone know it's a best bet yet? Granted I bought mine cause I think it will be based on Toyota's reputation, but I don't know for sure.
CR GOOD BETS
These models, listed alphabetically, have performed well in Consumer Reports road tests and have had several years of better-than-average reliability according to our survey respondents.
CR BAD BETS
These vehicles showed multiple Used Car Verdicts that were much worse than average, according to our survey respondents. They consistently had more problems than other models overall.
These assumptions are based on previous models I believe.

Not all Titans have had problems. My Titan has been a great truck. It has been used hard for work towing for 96K miles and it has never had any problem. Sometimes you just get a bad truck or a good truck. After saying that my next new truck will be a Tundra. I like what Toyota has done. But my Titan has been the best truck I have ever owned so far.

myfirsttoy,
I believe you are correct. Where being on the Good Bets list says more about Toyota than specifically the 07 Tundra, the Nissan has been around in its current form a little longer making its being on the Bad Bets list more of a negative of the new Titan as well as past years.

In 2001 I chose the Frontier over the Tacoma based on appearence. This year, I decided to upgrade to a full-sized truck and chose the Tundra. There was never any other considerations other than these two manufacturers.

I didn't want to tell one of the Toyota Dealerships I was dealing with, that I was going to buy from a different dealership, so basically I told him I had changed my mind and was going to look at Titans or Chevy's.
Well, he also sells Nissan and told me that if I decide to go with a Titan to give him a call. (he said this in front of the sales manager.)
Right after I left I got a call from him on my cell phone telling me that if I don't go with a Toyota, then I should definitely go with a Chevy and avoid Titans at all costs, as they are having tons of issues and customer dissatisfaction issues.
Take it for what it's worth. But here is a guy that could have made a commision off of me telling me not to buy a Titan.
We've been researching trucks for an upcoming purchase, I hope. In fact we are going to look at Tundra's and Silverado's tomorrow, maybe Titan's also. Anyway, last week I was at the library reading the Consumer Reports buying guide issue. Yes the Tundra is highly rated by going on past experience. The 2wd Silverado is also highly rated for reliability. Now go to the Titan and really read what was said about it and look at their chart to see what areas of the truck people are having issues with. Take away the brake issue and it completely changes the rating. Through the years it has gotten consistently better. As of 06 the only black mark is the brakes, hell what truck hasn't had brake issues! For 08 the Titan has increased brake rotor size and supposedly has more swept area than even the Tundra. Payload is increased and interior materials have been changed. The diff has been upgraded to a 4 pinion design, but is still a wee bit small. The whole point is that all the trucks have some good points and some have bad points. None of them are perfect. We will pick what we think will satisfy our needs and we comfortable to our pocketbook.
My perfect truck may be a Trundra Crewmax 4x4 SR5 with the auto 4wd from the Chevy and the utility bed from the Titan. With thicker metal on the body panels. I don't want to see the jello effect every time I close the door.
speaking as a past owner of a 06 titan, in my opinion these are the two front runners, of course the tundra has more power, but the things that exceed are it's stability on the road( i'm talking mack truck), its power is superior. had the new tundra not came out, i would still be a proud titan owner.

As a prior Titan CC owner myself, my brothers experience with his 2004 Titan really sold me. Neither of us had any issues to bring up here except poor gas mileage. I think the best features of the Titan were the SMOOOOTH automatic tranny, perfect V8 exhaust note rumble, comfortable seats, roomy interior, excellent power, and great fit and finish. We both ended up selling 'em because we could never beat 14mpg!!! Navigating a full size truck around was getting old as well (I went Tacoma, he went Ridgeline) as we did not really NEED full size trucks for personal use. The Titan's exterior styling is probably the biggest turn off for potential full size truck buyers (love or hate). Nissan and Toyota DESPERATELY need to offer a turbo-diesel engine option to be truly competitive with the Big 3, and Toyota needs to fix their screwed up ordering system. Full size truck buyers want to walk into a dealership and be able to custom order the EXACT color/model/option truck they want and have it arrive in 4-6 weeks.
No doubt with gas as high as it is a diesel is around the corner. It will however be tough to part with the 5.7, it is one smooth and powerful engine. Instant power trip.
Competition and potential loss of sales to Nissan. When the Titan came out the Tundra was outclassed in almost every regard and yes they are trying to compete with the big3 also.
The Titan is the reason Toyota now makes a Full sized truck.
I think it's more like Toyota is the reason Nissan has the Titan. Toyota came out with the Tundra years before the Titan, to test the full-size truck market. Granted it was a 9/10 scale full-size, but it made it clear America was willing to buy full-size trucks from the imports. Nissan let Toyota take the risk on that one, then saw it was good and built a great full-size truck.
However, Nissan gave the push for 4-door pickups. They were the first to come out with the 4-door frontier, and after those sold great, 4-door midsize and fullsize pickups really picked up speed. Up until then, the only 4-door pickups were like 3/4 & 1 ton work trucks.
So both companies have done their share of pushing the market.

I have both and I have to admit I regret getting the Tundra over another Titan just a little.
The Titan is an excellent truck. When it was introduced in 04 it won EVERY 1/2 ton shoot-out but reliability issues killed its reputation. Allot of respected mags have actually put the 07 Titan (basically a tightened up 04) over the 07 Tundra. That is impressive considering it's a 3 yr old model.
IMO the Titan is the 1/2 ton's best kept secret and I'm kinda regretting not waiting for the next gen.
Still like my Tundra but it's Ram-like styling and somewhat cumbersome driving experience are a bit of a downer.
Both are nice trucks however my parents chose the titan over the tundra. The first model year issues with the camshafts and tranny's were enough to scare them away not to mention the price.
