I do realize that Crewmaxes are not meant for hard core off-roading (I have a fully locked up Land Cruiser for that) but I took it out on some mild trails and here are few observations:
1. Pretty good gearing for a stock vehicle...in 4-Lo, you can go fairly slow over tough obstacles.
2. It sits really low to the ground! It will scrape it's belly going over even minor obstacles.
3. TRD dual exhaust is really low behind the rear wheels...I scraped them constantly going over small rocks.
4. Same for front mudflaps...they scraped even over small rocks..at least they didn't break off.
5. Auto LSD and ATRAC did not move the truck when one front wheel and one back wheel was completely off the ground. With a little momentum, I was able to get over the obstacle, but couldn't crawl it like a fully locked rig.
6. The truck is huge and it is difficult to keep from getting too many Arizona pinstripes. Overall, truck is okay for mild trails and dirt roads.

Another funny thing...I haven't seen too many o7 Tundras around, but on the way out to the trails north of Lake Pleasant, I saw 3 on the highway, including a BlueStreak Crewmax...haven't seen one on the trails though....

Do you know how the system works on the Tundra? I've been curious about this myself. I know every vehicle is different and on some you need to keep a certain RPMs before it kicks in, on others you can't hit the brakes, and while on even others, you need to use Brake Throttle Modulation....
I'm not necessarily surprised it couldn't move you, but could you at least see it kicking in?
i.e. the spinning wheel slowing or stopping? Or did it just spin free?

I could feel the spinning wheels being braked..even when I gave it a lot of throttle, the ATRAc system effectively cut down the power to try to stop the spinning wheel....when the wheels were on just loose stuff but still making contact, the system worked pretty well..kinda acted like limited slips with strong springs...not even close to a locker...

If you are talking on the way to Crown King....that truck wouldnt make it on the back roads....It's no Jeep. I know, I took my 2001 Tundra and BARELY made it...I got real lucky

We did the Lake Pleasant to Crown King the day after a major snow storm a couple of years ago....the snow covered all the drop-offs and off-camber spots and made it interesting...this was one time I wished I had ARB's instead of Detroit Lockers because I kept on sliding toward the edge!
