Question Can any k&n work ??

i recently thought of buying a air intake for my yaris 1.3L but i didnt find anything except the simota carbon charger which i think isnt that good
and i heard about K&N but there is no specific product for my car so
the guy at the shop wants to sell me a universal K&N and install it with a pipe , but im afraid that it being universal may mess with the control unit and sensor as regarding fuel and air burning ? what do u think??????????

I just installed a drop-in replacement K&N filter in my wifes yaris. It was $40 and has just been released recently.

You could make one yourself but I'd just pull the charcoal filter and put in the K&N replacement and call it a day. Thats what I did.

The guy says the metal pipe might not be necessary , because the engine bay is small and the black plastic tube can do the job
so is he right ? and does the metal pipe have any other use than getting cold air away from the engine?

well for one, metal is definitely the wrong way to go. It'll heat soak in a hot engine bay. Plastic is a better thermal insulator. Back in the day, alot of the guys with '93-97 Z28 camaro's were making their own cold air inductions out of PVC pipe. Though heavy, they did an excellent job of insulating the cold air due to the thickness and type of material its made of.

No. The ones that are for show are chrome plated tubing. The ones that work best are made from plastic/composite material.
