Default Speaker Size(s) in Yaris Liftback

Hi - new to this forum.

After a long wait, my Yaris is due in the dealer this week. Another couple of days to install the leather and I'm set!

Anyhoo... Does anyone know what size speakers the Liftback takes (front and rear)? I want to order a good set now so I can install them when I get the car.

Thanks.

6 1/2" in front and back. I put mb quart rce 216's in both. In the front I mounted the tweeters in the top rectangular plastic piece above the window switches, in the rear I mounted them as coaxials. So far with just the speaker upgrade it sounds way better. Alpine head unit, amp and sub are next.

I was hoping it would take 6 1/2". Those are the exact same speakers I'm planning on - and installed the same way. I have them in my old Camry and they sound great.

I ordered the JVC head unit that has a built-in HD tuner although I do prefer Alpine - they just don't have a reasonably priced HD head unit yet. I may go for an Alpine amp - I'll decide after the speakers and head unit upgrade. I don't want to lose the limited cargo space the Yaris has for the subs - besides... a 45 year old guy with booming bass looks stupid.

I picked up my car last night. The front is easy enough but how do you remove the door panel to get at the rear speakers? My MB Quarts are due Friday and I hope to find time to mount them this weekend. The stock speakers really are pretty lousy.

I got the rear panel off and found (to my surprise) that the rear speakers are 5 1/4"! I guess I won't be installing them this weekend after all.

I ordered a pair of the MB Quart RCE-213's and will return one pair of the RCE-216's.

If you are thinking of attempting this yourself, be aware that the factory speakers are riveted in so they need to be drilled out with a small bit. I think it would be best to attach the replacements with a rivet too, so you'll need the right tools.

(This information is for the Liftback - I don't know about the sedan.)

The rear speakers I had trouble with, so after a little bit I gave up and had a local shop do it. They were able to get the RCE 216's in there, not sure exactly how, but I know they drilled some new holes to mount them.

I see.

The rear factory speakers are mounted a little funny. The grill that shows from inside the cabin is offset about an inch from the speaker. I may delay returning the 6 1/2" until after I install.

Did the installer use the grills that came with the speakers or just stick with the factory openings?

I finally got time to install my speakers yesterday. The MB Quarts sound great with the factory head unit.

The factory speakers are different than I've seen before. The mounting bracket is actually the speaker cage. The rear speakers are a little larger than 5 1/4" - more like 5 1/2" or 5 3/4".

To install the woofers, I just cut the speaker cone and the rear basket off the factory speaker and used it as a mounting bracket. The front was easy. I just used longer screws to attach the woofer to the factory bracket. For the rear I used construction adhesive and glued the MB Quart mounting bracket upside down on the factory bracket and screwed the new speakers to it.

The rear speakers I set up as coaxials and installed the front as components (photos below).

It looks and sounds great.

Sorry for the delay – I was on vacation.

Pretty easy to take the door panel off. Mine is a liftback with power windows.

Just pull the light color trim pieces off starting at the top, disconnecting the power window harness from the center one. There are four screws to remove – one on the door latch and three under the trim you just removed. Then pull the door panel off starting at the bottom and lifting off at the top. There are two cables to the door latch to slip off – just don’t forget to reconnect them first when you reinstall or you’ll lock yourself inside (not that I’d be that stupid ).
