Yep, it's two weeks old with 1500 miles on it and we hit a deer with it. Lots of front end dammage, but no engine damage or frame damage (that we know of). Our insurance company sent an adjuster out to look at the car and they said $4,000 to start with. What sucks is that it will take months to get all the parts to replace it. We've got to be one of the first people to crash one of these on the east coast!
Sorry to see that, but it looks like Toyota's usual excellent design prevented more serious damage. Stupid deer are everywhere; I've seen them on every road from my driveway to the hill approaching my place of work, 17 miles away.
My wife prevents any damage to her new Yaris by continuing to drive her Sienna. The Yaris is all polished and sitting in my garage. Haven't figured out the logic behind that yet
What really stinks is that we don't live in deer country. We just happened to be in upstate NY on vacation when it happened.

I've read far more than I really want to on the subject of deer whistles, because at times they are a hot topic on motorcycle forums I read (deer are far more deadly to motorcyclists, obviously). The long and short of it is NO, they do not work.
Man I'm sorry to hear that. How fast were you driving? I am really happy to see that the deer didn't plow up onto and Into the windshield and, Lord knows what.
I hope things turn out good and well for you guys.

Damn dear.

Well, you walked away from that one. The poor Yaris looks like crap, though . Sorry to see, and hear, about that.

Is something supposed to be here?
Do those deer whistles work that mount on the front bumper?
When I was a porter at a body shop of a Ford dealership, we had a Ford Ranger come in that had been hit by a deer. The owner of the truck had the deer whistles mounted on each of the side view mirrors. I don't think they are supposed to be mounted that far apart. Anyway, the deer hit the passenger side mirror, its head then went through the passenger window and into the cabin. The driver was looking at it face to face. The frame of the door hit the deer's neck and caused its body to swing into the side of the bed. In this case, it appears as though the deer whistle actually attracted the deer. Luckily no one was hurt and it was fairly easy to fix the truck.
