Re: diff Corolla Yaris?
I needed to get a car for my frequent "long-haul" drives up and down the east coast. I had gone into the dealership pretty much set on buying a Corolla CE, but I left with a Yaris sedan with power package, cruise control, ABS & side airbags for about $100 more than the price of the Corolla I was considering (there was $500 cash back on the Corolla at the time, and the Yaris was $800 under MSRP).
For roughly the same money, I thought that the Yaris was more comfortable, had more features (at least the one I was considering, as optioned), nearly the same pickup & slightly better gas mileage than the Corolla. To me, the Yaris interior was much nicer than the "squishy" Corolla interior. I also thought that the rear seats in the Yaris folded flatter than those of the Corolla. The cruise, ABS & side airbags on the Yaris sealed the deal.
The only downside I saw to the Yaris was the uncertainty of being able to replace the darn Power Package integrated stereo with an aftermarket double-DIN system. Luckily, the bezel for the "standard" sedan radio is a readily available (if pricey) part in the US, which made the swap out easy.
So it's hard to say which would be better for you without knowing your application for the car. You might want to go to toyota.com & do a side-by-side comparison of the available features. One downside to the Yaris is trying to find one that has all the features you want in your area. The one I purchased was 300 miles away, but it was actually on my route during a trip I was taking.
For me, it acts as a 21st century "transporter"...I get in to it at one end of I-95, and many hours later I get out of it at the other end for about $20 in fuel. With the addition of a decent after-market entertainment system, IMHO the Yaris is perfectly suited to the task. I don't think it would make a bad daily driver, either.
