Default How to remove headliner/get access to map light power?

I'm thinking of replacing my stock rear view mirror with an auto-dimming mirror. This car sits much lower to the ground than others I've had, and since I drive it primarily long distances and at night, this normally frivolous upgrade would actually be usefull for me.

My local dealer gave me the Toyota part number of a supposedly "universal" autodimming mirror that will work in most late-model Toyotas (00016-32002).

I'm told it will attach to the current mounting point on my windshield, but of course I still have to figure out how to power it up. My idea would be to try & draw power from one of the maplights. Can anyone give me any advice as how to 1) remove the headliner in that area and 2) the best way to draw 12V from one of the map lights?

That's good to know there is a generic one - it's something I've thought of doing too.

Download a copy of the factory repair manual: 2007 Yaris Factory Repair Manual - Toyota Yaris Forums - Ultimate Yaris Enthusiast Site

It shows how to remove the headliner and everything else. Be careful not to bend the headliner or you'll leave a crease.

The easiest way to tap into the wiring is to get those clip on taps at any auto parts store. Get the right size for the gauge of wire there.

Here's an installation manual for that part (it's really for the Camry): http://www.toyotaparts4u.com/pdf_fil...s%20Mirror.pdf
