Looking to buy a 07 Sequoia, couple questions

Hey Guys, new to this forum but no stranger to Toyota's or car forums.

I'm looking to buy an 2007 Sequoia SR5 4WD that is for sale at a small dealer here in Wisconsin. On face value, the truck looks to be in very good condition with a pretty good maintenance history.

I'm well aware of the frame recall for these trucks. I also own a 97 4runner that has its fair share of rust issues.

My question about this particular one is the frame work that was done at the yota dealer last year (Feb/18). This is what comes up on the toyota owners site:

"H0F-CLEAN FRAME APPLY CRC, INSTALL PLUGS SUBLET. S EQUOI ~|~H0F ~|~ ~|~SCALED FRAME"

S00-CORROS RES KIT 00289S00KTDS
PLUG, HOLE KIT 0400718334

Also, it looks like the previous owner (its a one owner truck) had the frame inspected in 2017 also:

ZH9-FRAME INSPECTION ~|~RECALL H0F ~|~VEH HAS AN OPEN H0F ~|~PERFORMED FRAME INSPECTION OP CODE GHG23A NO HOLES FOUND IN FRAME AT THIS TIME DONE

Obviously I need to go look at it in person to check the condition of the frame. What has me kind of concerned is when the inspected last year, they used a CRC kit but they also used a "plug, hole kit PN 0400718334".

When I do a search for that PN, I can find it for sale on a bunch of sites but none of them explain what it is or what it's for. Is this a plug kit for a hole in the frame or some other kind of plug that is used for applying the CRC?

I asked the dealer how the frame is and he said "solid as a rock". Obviously, I take that with a grain of salt and will need to do a thorough inspection myself.

Thoughts?

Thanks !

Re: Looking to buy a 07 Sequoia, couple questions

Sounds like Toyota deemed the frame not bad enough to replace, so they sprayed it to prevent further rust. Maybe they put some plugs in various spots on the frame to keep out moisture? I'd DEFINITELY put eyes on to judge for yourself. I'd be less concerned about the plug hole kit than the overall condition of the frame.

I agree that I'll need to see it in person to really know. I asked the dealer to send me some pictures of the underside to see if it is even worth the drive out there (about 45 minutes away).

If everything other than the frame is rusty, I'll probably pass.

Here is the truck if anyone wants to see it: https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/d...3100/overview/

Here is the car fax: https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...BT44A87S283488

Looks like the PO was pretty proactive with the maintenance. I think it's worth a drive out to see. I don't know how much faith I'd put in photos. Plus with the CRC already applied, I wouldn't expect to see much rust. I know I'd also look much more closely, than some photos a car salesman would take showing a potential vehicle sale in a negative light.

Re: Looking to buy a 07 Sequoia, couple questions

As part of the frame settlement, Toyota will inspect the frame on any Sequoia and either coat it with CRC if it's fine or replace it if it's too rusty/unsafe. I have a 2006 Sequoia I fairly recently moved from California to the midwest so I knew the frame was fine but I took it in to get the free CRC coating anyway. I'm putting Fluid Film on it too but I figured if it's free... I don't know about the plugs though. Mine didn't have that added on as far as I know. Just pointing out the CRC coating by itself is not something to worry about.
