2000 AC V8 2WD? First Mileage Test

80% freeway, 58-60 mph, no AC, No load, babied like an egg under the gas pedal. Only got 15.25! Was hoping for a bit more? Cali vehicle if it matters.

Sound about right?

thx

Re: 2000 AC V8 2WD? First Mileage Test

Does to me. I have never obsessed about the gas mileage on my '02 AC 4 X 4, but the few times I have checked it, I have gotten from as low as ten to twelve when towing a twelve foot trailer full of household goods from Auburn, CA to Yuma, AZ, to as high as 19 to 21 on a haul from LA to Phoenix on I-10 with just me and a suitcase and the usual light travel stuff on board.
Jonesy likes this.

Nope, doesn't sound right at all. Under those conditions I usually get 20-21.

I would start with a tune up. Pugs, air filter, clean MAF and throttle body. Run some sea foam in the gas for a few tanks. Check tire air pressure, and verify that none of your brakes are handing up.

Your mileage is not awful, but could be a few mpg better.

Well, as others have said, do a good tune up. I use what ever is on sale as far as filters and plugs. Never noticed a difference when using different brands.

I have a set of electric fans and an underdrive crank pulley. I also have a tonneau cover. I run synthetic fluids and keep my front tires at 34psi and my rears at 28psi. I don't know how much any of that helps, but I know it doesn't hurt.

I usually do 60-65 on the highway and don't accelerate to hard. I have street tires and didn't go crazy when I upsized them.

I use an app called "torque." It gives real time MPG using your phone and an OBDII bluetooth adapter. Definitely helps when picking a speed and driving style.

When are plugs supposed to be replaced? I'm thinking these are original, 120K.

I don't really know. I clean mine every oil change (about 10k) and replace probably at 50,000 miles.

Re: 2000 AC V8 2WD? First Mileage Test

I bought one of these:

Robot Check

to monitor mileage using the Torque Android App but it seems too forgiving. I just did a trip up the freeway and averaged ~ 25 mpg on the way back (15 miles, no traffic).

Are these OBB II sensors reliable for mpg?

thx
