I am about to replace the engine and wondering if anyone recommends replacing any other parts while the area is empty. Will definitely do the motor mounts. But nothing else planned. Anything in the transmission?

the story if you want it...
I recently had the timing belt tensioner blow on my 03 tundra at 191,000. I'm not sure when the first one was replaced or if they did the tensioner at that time. I had every oem pulley and part needed to replace it for the last 6 months but couldn't get around to it. I know that's lame but I've been working 2 full time jobs. Anyway, I'm going to replace the engine with an 04 with 40000 miles. Found one around 1600 bucks with shipping. I live in Hawaii and the engine is coming from the mainland which takes a while. I'd like to order parts and be ready when the engine arrives.

I'll put the timing belt parts and everything else I have on the new motor before dropping it in. Have a new radiator and tranny cooler as well. I love this truck and it doesn't have much rust, so I'd like to keep it going for a while. Any other advice is greatly appreciated!

Headers? Gotta be about 1000 times easier to do with the motor out.

Great time to put in new belts and hoses. While you have it out check power steering pump and that hard to get to a/c compressor for any signs of leaks. With the engine out I would also look over all the steering components, great time to change out those steering rack bushings if need be. I would go crazy on cleaning everything while waiting on parts. "Enjoy the adventure"... Chap

Thanks for the reply guys!

I looked into headers but trying to buy a house and shouldn't go down a 2000 dollar rabbit hole. That could change though, haha.

I am doing all belts and hoses. Going to put my whole oem timing belt kit on the new engine since I have it anyway... oil seals trans mount and motor mount insulators. Already did the steering rack bushings. Will definitely clean and paint anything I can while in there.

Do you just hang the ac compressor while swapping?

Long block came with starter and intake manifold so that saves some time. Going to rebuild Alternator during swap. Ill probably try to post a video since there arent many resources in that department. It's an 04 motor going into an 03 so I really hope can use the same harness.

Will post an update on here when it's all said and done so the next dummy that doesn't replace his timing belt on time will have some more help.

Going to pull the motor without the trans... from what I've read it seems like I should push the torque converter back into the trans then attach it to the fly wheel of the new motor for install? Seems weird but I'm having trouble finding much on the topic. Any advice would be appreciated!
