I recently bought a 2008 5.7L Tundra. It only has 120,000 miles on it but the motor created an odd ticking. It wasn't in the valves so we pulled the motor and found a chip on one of the Pistons. We are replacing that but my main question is in reference to the timing chain and all that goes with it. Everything looks fine but with the motor,

out should I replace all of those components in reference to the timing chain tensioners Etc?

Makes sense to replace it since its easier to work on with the motor out. I’ve heard the tensioners on the 5.7L wear out so yes replace it. Not sure of the chain cost, but they do stretch a little and might as well replace if the cost is reasonable for the part. Do anything you can while the motor is open.

What caused that piston chip?
