So I was driving the last 50 miles of a 550 mile trip last night at about 74mph and the transmission just stopped pulling. I was on cruise control and next thing I know the engine hit limiter. It won't pull in forward or reverse. Sounds like a rattle and scratching inside the transmission. Toyota said my transmission model is UCK40. Any ideas on what the trouble is and how hard to repair?

Well, now that I have read into the discussions on this site, I am convinced my transmission is junked out. Oh well..... It lasted 267,000 miles. I called my local dealer to learn my cost for their Toyota rebuilt transmission is $4000 minus $1000 core credit. My engine is still a great engine. It literally uses no oil and runs great. I have a couple places on the frame to repair but otherwise it is a great truck. I am seriously considering buying the rebuilt transmission from Toyota. For the long haul, what other options are there?

Wish I could find the threads on here but cant right now. More than a few guys on here having the same issue as you have gone with used ones that usually come with warranty and are around $1000 or so. Not cheap but still a lot better than $3000. Do some more reading on here and see if you can find those threads to get an idea of where to buy one.
There's also a company that used to be a supporting vendor on this site called IPT transmissions. I dont know that they come on here anymore but you could look up their info and call them directly. They might be able to provide you with some solid advice on what your best options are.

Thanks Cheapskate. I have been given the big runaround on this transmission since the build date is may, 2000. Jasper says they don't build the PCK30 (or UCK30), which is what I have. Jasper quoted me $4,425 minus possible core credit of $650 to total $3,775 if I had the PKC40 (or UKC40), but I don't. So I called IPT Performance Transmissions (importperformancetrans.com) and John quoted me $3,400 plus shipping to and from to rebuild mine as a performance transmission and I will do the swap myself. He said they build transmissions for people who abuse (race) them and still give 1 year unlimited miles warranty and told me I would have no issues being the general everyday driver.

I do not plan to get rid of this truck. If I can get another 260,000 miles out of it, I will. What do ya'll think?

Difficult to find the treads you mention. No luck yet.

Yeah I search for a while in hopes of getting you one of those threads myself but no luck. Here's one for used engines but if these places sell engines, good chance they sell trannies as well.
I cant comment from an expert point of view but maybe $3400 for a pro rebuild including unlimited mileage warranty isnt a bad price at all. One thing for sure you should do, beyond the tranny problem is the rust you mentioned. If you do plan on keeping this truck get it rustproofed pronto. Either grab some cans of Por15 or Fluidfilm type DIY product from your local store or take it some place and oil the crap out of your truck. You can replace parts easy enough on a vehicle but once the rust starts to get hold it, you're F'd

Edit: Found this one. Its pretty active still and has some links so this might be a thread to read. You can ask your questions here since its an active thread. You might get more responses that way.

And another tip, click on a persons name in red. It will show you the last time they were on this site. So if you are asking a specific person a question and you see they haven't been on the site in a year, good chance they are gone.

sounds like the planetary for OD might have gone out. I remember hearing they are fragile in the 1st gens.

Ok, so my local Toyota dealer says there are no UCK40 rebuilt transmissions available. Now what?
the answer is go to someone else. 2001 Toyota Automatic Transmission. Driveline - 350103421084 - Genuine Toyota Part

From what I have read on here transmissions from 2000 to 2004 are all compatible. Maybe even before that but not sure. Either way the point is the one Lunas showed should work, but does it have the updated planetary gears or whatever was failing on the other ones in the first place?

not sure but if toyota fixed the issue at any point in manufacture these probably have the newer ones. And yes i checked before 00-04 share the same a340f transmission. in 05 they debuted the world standard fluid.

So I shipped my transmission to IPT. I know that is a lot of $ to throw at a 2000 model truck, but I just can not see throwing $ with the dice on a used transmission that I don't know how it was used and how well it was maintained. I plan to drive this truck for a long time yet. I will update as I go forward.
