I love my Tundra. I never thought I could kill it. Tranny finally broke. I had been abusing the truck rushing around after wife had a stroke. It goes forward albeit badly in one. And completely locks in reverse.
My friend, a mechanic, says they are the same issue. Maybe just a planetary gear. Which can be bought used for $45 and a rebuild seal kit at $200 and it may cost me $600.
My question.
Which is best way forward?
My friend to attempt repairing tranny. He is fairly confident.
OR
I notice there is a used tranny from a 2002 Sequoia for sale for $350.
I see they both use the same tranny....A340E.
Is there something I am missing?
ECU and electrical instructions to tranny on one car vs next maybe?

Can I install?
Should I install. I don't mind spending $600 to see if I can save my baby.
Thank you Toyota for such an amazing product.
I bought a 2004 XJ8 Jag VDP and it cost 4 times more than the lowly Tundra and it is the biggest piece of rubbish I have ever encountered.
Help please
