The brake light converter could have had an internal meltdown & cause a short,
A good visual check can find bare wires, since this post is a month old, you probably have the truck fixed by now, there are a few different short finders on the market, I have two different styles, I've been tracking, finding & repairing short circuits for over 30 years. I doubt you want to drive to Ohio, If I cannot find the short in 10 minutes, it's free.
