2000 Not Starting at Times

Hello,

Got a problem that cropped up in my truck over the last week. It is having problems starting and I am not sure why. Occasionally, I'll go out to start it and one of three things will happen.

1. Turn the key and it starts up fine!
2. Turn the key and I get "clicking noises". I sometimes have to turn the key over 4-5 times before the clicking noises get replaced with the starter actually beginning to turn the engine over and then it finally starts.
3. Turn the key and the engine is wanting to start (sounds strong) but it will never start. When this happens, I turn the key back off again and it will start right up the next time.

I replaced the battery yesterday thinking that might be the problem but that didn't solve it. I was thinking about replacing the plugs and fuel filter this weekend. But I am afraid that the clicking noises would have nothing to do with either. My gut feeling is a starter issue.

Any ideas on what else it might be?

Thanks for the replies guys. I am not planning on doing it myself. I plan on buying all the parts and letting my local mechanic do it for me. I figure, while more expensive, it will be safer.. :)

You guys happen to have any part numbers? According to the guide I need 4 parts. So far, I have the manifold gasket part numbers which are 1717150020. What about the numbers for the starter contacts, throttle body gaskets, and the gaskets for fuel intake regulator.

I called up my local Toyota Dealership and they told me he couldn't give me part numbers for the contacts. He said he needed to see my old ones to match them up with the new ones. He claimed that Toyota used different sets of Starter Contacts and not the same for all trucks.

This a bunch of bull?
