I've read several posts regarding he V8 ticking noise that is attributed to anything from piston slap to cracked exhaust manifolds. Never really got a good feel for what the exact cause or fix was. Anybody know?

Has this problem gone away with the 2002 model? Curious 'cause I'm looking at getting the '02/'03 model later this year.

thanks to all.

Purchased 2002 in January, and the ticking has gone away for most part at 1000 miles. From what I understand the ticking is when engine is cold, and since you have 32 valves, you are bound to hear something. Once she is warm, she is quiet as can be. Truck is great, and I would recommend to anyone looking for full size SUV, with a high quality standard. I had a 96 Tahoe, and 99 Sub with 5.7 V8. Might of been quiet, but had oil leaks, coolant leaks, water pumps, noisy belts, ticking and all this before 40,000 miles.
