Recently my headlight lever stopped working. I’m able to use my directional lights, and my headlights; but, the headlights stay on. I have to remove the headlight fuses in order to turn them off.

I bought an OEM lever from eBay, and wanted to know if the repair was as easy as popping off the shroud, unplugging the current lever and just popping the new one in? I don’t have experience working with cars, and I don’t want to ruin anything here. Any advice is appreciated.

thanks

Here is a diagram to help. I’ve not done this job before, but from reading you’ll need to pay mind to making sure you are safe with the Air Bag and also making sure to line the steering wheel back up properly. Looks like a plug and play type job. Just take your time and take plenty of pictures to remind yourself.

I heard the clock spring was the real bastard. Something about not getting it set right and it gets all F'd up.
Here's a funny one for ya. I work at one of the Toyota plants. We never take any steps in regards to worrying about airbags going off. The cars are on when the seats are installed and those airbag connections are done, same with the steering wheel one. If there are repairs to be done the vehicle is usually off but we dont disconnect the battery or anything like that.
I've always heard people say be careful with them but we sure as hell arent. LOL.

It's easy to change. There are lots of you tube videos that will show you step by step procedures to change the switch.
I had the same issues with lights staying on. I changed out the switch and h/l relay and neither one fixed the problem. I'm guessing my problem ended up being a stuck relay on the back side of the fuse panel on the driver side interior. I'm not 100% sure because it cleared after I repeatedly tapped (firmly) on the box below the fuses. It's been working fine since then.
No guarantees this will fix your problem but I'm happy with my results.
Good luck. I know it's frustrating.

I'm sure you know to disconnect the 12v battery first and I'm positive that there's repair videos on YouTube or in the Haynes repair book
