So I drove my truck to and from work today parked it at home and 4 hours later went out to start it. I got in it and nothing, no dash lights, cab lights, no noises, just won’t start at all. Doesn’t even try. But my off-road lights are still getting power and turning on. My dad and I hooked up the jumper cables and went to crank it. Dash lights came on and tried to start for a second but the negative cable sparked. And yes I know how to hook up cables correctly I’ve done it many times. I tried cranking it again and it sparked at the negative terminal. After that we let it sit trying to charge up the battery but now IT GETS NOTHING! No power at all, no dash lights and not even trying to start. But the off-road lights still turn on. Truck has never had problems. Every once in a while it’ll be a little stubborn starting but nothing serious. Idk if it’s the battery, fuses, starter, alternator, or ecu. Someone please help I have no idea on where to start.

Start small and simple first. Have you tried removing the cables and checking for corrosion or breaks anywhere? How old is the battery?

I am an old school mechanic. We would tap with a hammer on the side of the starter when someone is turning over the key to start the vehicle. A lot of times the starter bendix gear will engage for one last time. Hopefully a person can get to the starter for this method. Good Luck John Larson
