I have a 2007 Tundra that needed the starter to be replace. When it was finish and the battery was connected, the starter motor engaged and kept spinning. Once the battery was disconnected, it stopped. I check the small terminal wire from the starter solenoid and the starter motor and it was in contact with the positive cable coming from the battery. Once I separated them and reconnected the battery, it no longer spun but now my battery cables began to smoke. After disconnecting them and double checking my starter and wires, I reconnected the battery terminals and now it smokes and starter motor started to spin again. After a fourth inspection, I’ve now lost all power to my truck. No horn, no lights, nothing. I’ve repacked starters on other cars before and never ran into this type of symptoms before. Any help would be appreciated.
