I was all excited about being able to listen to the audio books I have on my Sansa E280 MP3 player through my sound system (JBL E7026 NAV), but I can't get the system to find any of my MP3 files. (BTW, the MP3 files have no DRM protection.) When the USB cable is plugged in, the player automatically powers up and says "reading", then "writing", then "connected". It also shows that its battery is charging. When I push the Audio button on the NAV, the USB tab is grayed out, which I think indicates that the system can't see any files on the player. I know the NAV system's USB works, because it does see and play the files if I put them on a USB memory stick drive and plug it in.

After researching this forum and others, I tried loading the MP3's onto the player using the MSC (vs. MTP) interface for the USB, and making sure that the USB setting on the player stays on MSC. The system still can't see any of the files either in the player's internal memory or in the microSD card in the player. I also tried removing the MicroSD card from the player - still no luck.

I'd really like to keep and play all of my books from a single source. Has anyone else gotten a Sansa E200 series player to work through USB, or am I stuck using a cable between the headphone jack on the player and the Sequoia's Aux input, and using the player's little controls for playback? Is there any other kind of player, other than iPod, that someone has gotten to work through the USB?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I have a sansa clip 8G and have the same issue. Once I plug it into the usb port the sansa starts charging and says writing. I click the audio button on the nav and the USB tab is highlighted and a message pops up and says it cannot read any files on the usb device. 2010 crewmax limited 5.7.

So i figured it out. The sansa has 3 USB modes for transfering files. MTP (Media Transfer Protocal) and MSC (Mass Storage Class) and Auto Select. If Auto is selected then when connected to a windows box MTP will be the default and your files will be transfered over MTP. MSC is mostly for macs, linux etc... and is more of a standard. MTP transfer mode is not supported by the tundra audio system. Windows XP needs a driver for MTP mode as well to view files on the sansa transferred in MTP mode. However the tundra audio system will accept MSC usb mode and will read from the sansa just like a thumb flash drive if its in MSC mode. So in short go to sansa settings and select USB settings then select MSC mode (this is on the clip+ but should be similar on all sandisk players). Then you will need to transfer your files over to the music folder on the sansa under usb MSC mode. Note if you dont delete the files under MTP mode first you will take up double the space because the MTP transferred files will still be on the sansa. Plug the sansa usb cable back into the tundra and voila it should read the files and folders. Control from the steering wheel works as well as file and folder RAND

As a side note i also plugged in lexar 8 gig usb thumb drive i bought at target for 19 bucks, copied my mp3 folders from windows and it read all my files and folders first try.

I never could get my Sansa E280 to work, using these or any other suggestions I found. Any thumb drive I tried worked OK though. Apparently, my E280 has some quirk that the Sansa Clip does not have. After taking off my brown hat and considering the cost of the vehicle vs. the cost of an MP3 player, I finally caved in and got an iPod Nano, since the audio system is specifically designed to work with it.
