Looking at purchasing a 2014 Tundra TSS 4wd with 230K miles. Truck has been very well taken care of with service records to prove it. Runs and drives great but I'm hesitant purchasing one with 230k miles. I know these things last for many years with tons of miles if well taken care of. I just can't afford some of the prices for trucks now and this one caught my eye due to how well it's been taken care of. The guy that had it drove probably 75% highway miles for work. Any thoughts concerns purchasing one with such high mileage? I'm a ford guy with 2 ecoboosts, expedition and F150 but looking to get away from them on my next vehicle.

I'd take newer and higher miles vs lower miles and older any day. Highway miles are the easiest thing you can do with a vehicle and you already said this one is highway miles. If you like and its clean, go for it.

My 2012 Tundra had 746K miles when it met it's fate by an impaired driver. 230k miles isn't a lot on a Toyota--as long as it was well taken car of.

My only suggestion to buying anything used is looking for heavy rust. If you live in the rust belt or thats where its from I would make sure it only has the usual surface rust and nothing more.

I bought my 2WD 5.7L 2007 5 years ago when it had 270,000 miles... I am the 4th owner, and there are no service records available from the previous owners or Toyota. I brought all the service up to speed, and made the repairs & modifications I wanted to make... the truck has 308,000 miles on it today, and it's a problem free pleasure to drive.

no rust whatsoever. All the service records are on carfax. Shocks replaced and its a very very clean truck. I was really impressed with it. I just keep going back and forth in my mind trying to figure out if I should get it or pass. Truth be told, if it was lower mileage, etc it'd probably be out of my price range.

This makes me feel a little better. I'm not expecting a new truck or anything, I just need something reliable and from what I've read these past few days if it's well maintained, a tundra is it.

If you have a scan tool - use it. If you can get to a local tire store, have them put it up on a lift, and be present as they inspect the suspension, tires & brakes. Take a bright flashlight with you... take a big sheet of cardboard with you so you can slide under the truck and inspect it if you can't get it on a lift. Inspect everything, and then take it on an extended test drive on all sorts of road surfaces. Turn the radio off and listen to the truck.

Desert Roads, wow 746,000 miles. Did any of the drivetrain wear out? Transmission or transfer case or rear end? Did you change all the oils regularly?
